Offer Description

The Iscte Research Unit DINÂMIA’CET-Iscte, Centre for the Study of Socioeconomic Change and the Territory is calling for applications for one (1) Post-Doctoral Research Grant for the ERC Advanced Grant Project ArchLabour - Architecture, Colonialism and Labour - European Research Council (ERC) ref. 101096606 (2024-2028).

Expected Tasks 

1. Support in researching and reviewing scientific literature for the project; 

2. Archive research, especially architectural documentation; processing and systematization of the information collected;

3. Validation and research into the project's case studies; 

4. Production and publication of scientific output (journal articles, book chapters); 

5. Participation in study missions and fieldwork; 

6. Support in the organisation of and participation in initiatives to disseminate the project's results (seminars/exhibitions/publications).

PhD Degree in Architecture obtained no more than two years prior to the date of submission to this fellowship, with a classification higher than 17 (out of 20) (eliminatory factor);

If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognised by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and of article 4(2)(e) of Decree- Law no. 60/2018, of August 3, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of the act of hiring.

Specific Requirements

Publication, as first or sole author, of at least one article or chapter in the last 5 years, indexed in Scopus (eliminatory factor);

Participation in national and international scientific meetings (preferential factor);

Successful experience in individual applications for research funding (preferential factor);

Research topic related to the subjects and topics of the ArchLabour research project (preferential factor);

Proficiency in Portuguese (spoken and written, advanced - eliminatory factor);

Proficiency in English (spoken and written, advanced - preferential factor).

Research Experience

Research experience in the field of History of Architecture (including archival research) (eliminatory factor);

Participation in three research projects funded by FCT or similar organisations (eliminatory factor);

Research experience in Mozambique (preferential factor);

Post-doctoral experience at international level (preferential factor);

Benefits

The amount of the grant, on an exclusive and full-time basis, corresponds to €1801.00, according to the table of grants awarded directly or indirectly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atualizacao-2024.pdf), paid monthly by bank transfer to the holder. The grant holder may also be reimbursed the amount corresponding to the Voluntary Social Insurance if they join this scheme. The grant holder will benefit from personal accident insurance. The project includes additional and specific funds to cover fieldwork missions to be carried out by the grant holder in the regions included in the work plan.

The fellowship will have an expected duration of 24 months, starting on the 1 October 2024, possibly renewable for the same or different periods, up to the maximum limit of the approved funding or up to the maximum duration of this type of fellowship (whichever comes first), and may under no circumstances exceed the limits of paragraphs 3 and 6 of article 7 of Regulation no. 950/2019, of 29 November, published in Diário da República, no. 241, 2nd Series, of 16 December (FCT, I.P. Research Fellowship Regulation). 

Selection process

The selection process will be based on the following criteria, in descending order of importance: 

a) The candidate's academic curriculum relevant to the area of the competition; 

b) Motivation letter;

c) Interview (only candidates selected by the jury on the basis of criteria a) and b). 

 

This competition may be cancelled until the final list of candidates has been approved but will remain valid for the duration of the project.

Copy of proof of completion of doctorate; 

and other documents deemed relevant to the application. 

If the qualification has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognised by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and diplomas in Higher Education, awarded by foreign higher education institutions and article 4(2)(e) of Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of 03 August, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of the hiring act. Documents proving that the candidate holds academic degrees and diplomas, or that they have been recognised when awarded by foreign higher education institutions, may be waived at the application stage and replaced by a declaration of honour by the candidate in accordance with the appropriate draft, with verification of this condition only occurring at the scholarship contracting stage.
