Offer Description
A call for applications is open for a research grant for a graduate student enrolled in a Master's program, within the scope of the project “Green CCircuit - Global second-hand clothing sales circuits. Sustainability, greenwashing and the circular economy”, financed by the Triangular Cooperation Fund between Portugal, Latin America and Africa. This Fund was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between “Camões - Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, I.P.” and SEGIB for the management of the resources earmarked for carrying out the Fund's various activities.

Admission requirements
This competition is open to graduates in Geography or related areas who are enrolled in Master's programs at Higher Education Institutions.
The candidate to be selected must have the following requirements:
- A degree in Geography or related areas;
- Be enrolled in the 2nd year of a Master's program in Geography or related areas;
- Proficiency in Portuguese and English (fluency and accuracy in oral and written expression).
Eligibility of candidates
Applicants must meet the eligibility conditions set out in Article 9 of the FCT I.P. Research Grant Regulations (Regulation no. 950/2019, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, no. 241 on December 16).
Project overview
The project Global second-hand clothing sales circuits. Sustainability, greenwashing and the economy aims to contribute to education for development in the context of the circular economy in the textile and clothing sector in Ibero-America, particularly in Mozambique and Mexico. The GreenCCircuit project seeks to: (i) Identify the global flows that make up the second-hand clothing supply chains; (ii) At a global level, analyze the impacts of sending clothing to countries in the Global South; (iii) At a local scale, examine the environmental and social impacts of importing second-hand clothing and what dynamics stand out in the places where second-hand clothing is sold, particularly in markets dedicated to this type of product. The GreenCCircuit project will develop a knowledge transfer process suited to the needs and training of the educational, business and administrative fabric. In particular, based on the knowledge produced by the GreenCCircuit project, training actions will be developed inside and outside the university environment, as well as a manual of good practices, thus offering tools to promote sustainable circular economy circuits.
Work plan
The work plan for the research fellow to be hired is as follows:
- Prepare a master's thesis on the project's theme;
- Gather information from different sources on global second-hand clothing circuits;
- Using different sources, summarize the sustainability impacts of global second-hand clothing circuits;
- Gather information on national legislation in the countries to be selected that affects the export and import of second-hand goods;
- Support the organization of fieldwork and the processing of the resulting information;
- Assisting in the production of material for scientific and technical dissemination;
- Collaborating in the preparation of interim reports on the implementation of the project;
- Assisting with other tasks that may become necessary during the course of the project;

Additional Information
Duration of the scholarship
The scholarship will last for 15 (fifteen) months, without renewal. It is scheduled to begin on October 1, 2024, on an exclusive basis, and will end in December 2025. The grant may be canceled at any time if the grantee fails to comply with the work plan.
Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance
The amount of the grant corresponds to €990.98 according to the table of values of grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores).
Selection methods
The applicable selection method will be curricular assessment of the candidates.
Assessment parameters:
The curricular assessment comprises the following parameters:
- Curriculum Vitae (30%);
- Degree classification (35%);
- Proficiency in Portuguese and English (fluency and accuracy in oral expression) (15%);
- Motivation letter (20%).
The jury may, if it deems it necessary, call the candidates in the top 3 positions for an interview. In this case, the interview will have a weight of 30%, to be added to the score obtained in the first selection phase, which will have a weight of 70%.
The jury may not award a grant if the candidates do not match the desired profile.
Form of publication/notification of results
The final results of the assessment will be communicated to the candidates by means of a notification sent to the email address indicated for this purpose.
If the result is unfavorable to the granting of the scholarship requested, the candidates have a period of 10 working days to express their opinion, if they wish, at a prior hearing for interested parties, under the terms of articles 121 and 122 of the Code of Administrative Procedure (DL no. 4/2015 of January 7 and its amendments).
The selected candidate must express their intention to accept the scholarship in writing. In the event of non-acceptance, the grant will be awarded to the candidate in order of final ranking.

The competition is open from August 1 to 14, 2024.

b) Curriculum Vitae;
c) Degree certificates. With regard to degree certificates, if the degree was obtained at a foreign institution, it must be recognized by a Portuguese institution in accordance with Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16 and Ministerial Order no. 33/2019, of January 25, in its wording in force on the date of application);
d) In the case of foreign citizens, a document proving residence in Portugal, namely a residence permit or other legally equivalent document;
e) Proof of enrollment in the 2nd year of a Master's program in Geography or related areas;
f) Other supporting documents deemed relevant;
g) Declaration of prior consent to communication by electronic means.
