Offer Description

The future position holder should represent the field of power engineering in the department with a system-oriented perspective in research and teaching and develop the field in a future-oriented manner. The applicant is expected to have a broad technical background in the field of power generation, transmission, and storage and an outstanding scientific expertise in several of the following research areas:

·         Control, automation and optimization methods in power engineering

·         Digitalization and IT security in power engineering

·         Power electronic systems in power engineering

·         Energy storage systems in power engineering

·         Grid planning and operation (e.g. risk and AI-based methods)

·         Grid concepts (e. g. cellular grids, DC grids, sector coupling)

We are looking for a highly qualified individual with a strong background in the mentioned areas based on fundamental research or demonstrable industrial research and high visibility due to research projects and international publications. Experience in an industrial environment (industrial activities or projects) is welcomed. In addition to a relevant scientific qualification, extensive experience in the independent acquisition of research funding and the independent leadership of a research group or equivalent industrial experience is expected. Active participation in and initiation of research cooperations in the department, at the university and at the location is highly desired.

Teaching duties include compulsory and elective courses in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs, in particular on the fundamentals of electrical engineering and power engineering, power generation, transmission and storage, grid planning and operation as well as advanced topics (e. g. control and automation methods in power engineering). Since some lectures in the Bachelor's programs need to be offered in German, a willingness is expected to take over these after an orientation phase. Several years of experience and a particular aptitude for academic teaching are required. Relevant experience with interdisciplinary and international courses and innovative teaching concepts is welcomed. Leading participation in the further development of the teaching program in the field of power engineering and in academic self-administration is expected.
