Offer Description

XPOSE is a doctoral training program focused on exposome & health. It aims to deepen our

understanding of the interplay between environmental exposures and biological responses and how

this leads towards the development of diseases across all stages of life. The scientific program addresses three

critical facets of the human exposome: (i) environmental factors, (ii) social and behavioral factors and (iii) biological processes. Xpose will combine conventional and innovative approaches to identify modifiable factors that modulate exposure and health consequences in order to develop innovative interventions in the future. The program is supported by the PRIDE block grant of the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR).

The earliest start date will be October 2024, after a comprehensive and competitive selection process starting in July 2024.

About XPOSE program

Elements such as urbanization, technological advancements, and climate change have a strong impact on humans, who are constantly and increasingly exposed to factors such as air/noise pollution, chemicals, processed food and sedentary lifestyle contributing to development of chronic diseases. This generates the need for a deeper understanding of human exposure to develop countermeasures and effective interventions and inform public health policies. The XPOSE doctoral program will train the next generation of exposome scientists, capable of acting on the interface of scientific disciplines, understanding the complexities of big and real-world data and using innovative knowledge and methods to harvest and analyse it. The main scientific objective of XPOSE is to develop novel methodologies for a holistic analysis of the impact of environmental, chemical, nutritional, social, and lifestyle-related exposures on health. Taking advantage of new technological developments, such as digital health solutions, Big Data and AI, XPOSE will put a particular focus on modifiable factors that can influence exposure and its effects on individuals' health.

The XPOSE doctoral program includes specialized exposome-related training package as well as transferable skills courses, support in career development, keynote lectures and annual PhD retreats. Depending on their chosen topic, the PhD candidates will conduct their research projects either at the Luxembourg Institute of Health  (Department of Precision Health, Department of Infection and Immunity), at the University of Luxembourg (Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine or Faculty of Human Education and Social Sciences) or at the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER). All PhD candidates will be enrolled at the University of Luxembourg in the Doctoral School in Science and Engineering or the Doctoral School in Humanities and Social Sciences, depending on the main PhD project focus.

More information on XPOSE and the available positions/projects can be found here.
