WHO WE ARE

INESC-ID (www.inesc-id.pt), “Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores: Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Lisboa” is a Research and Development and Innovation Organization (R&D+i) in the fields of Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering.

INESC-ID promotes cooperation between academia and industry by addressing research on daily life issues, such as healthcare, space, mobility, human language technologies, agri-food, industry 4.0, and smart grids. The Executive Board of INESC-ID approved an international selection call for 1 (one) fixed-term work contract for an Engineer, under the following conditions:

 

 

OBJECTIVES | FUNCTIONS

The CBM4Scale innovation study is a cutting-edge research initiative aimed at advancing the performance and scalability of Graph Neural Network (GNN) models on extreme-scale HPC systems. By pioneering a novel Compressed Binary Matrix (CBM) storage format and optimized matrix operations, this project seeks to achieve groundbreaking advancements in AI applications across various domains.

Within this consortium, you will be at the forefront of developing, evaluating, and integrating innovative algorithms to redefine the capabilities of current GNN frameworks.

The main objectives are to (1) review the fundamental GNN architectures, and their capabilities for extracting and learning rich features on real-world graphs, (2) implement/integrate exact or approximation schemas  to accelerate underlying algorithms based on project ongoing work and results, and (3) to conduct experimental evaluations in HPC environments.

DURATION

 

6 (six) months.  Non-renewable

 

SALARY | MEAL ALLOWANCE | WORKPLACE

 

Salary, prior to any deductions or withholdings – 1 649.15€ (One thousand six hundred and forty-nine euros and fifteen cents), working in an exclusive dedication basis.

 

Meal allowance per work day of 6€ (six euros).

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS | SKILLS | QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants for this position are required to possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering. with a focus on deep learning, high-performance computing, or algorithm engineering. 

Strong knowledge and experience on algorithm engineering, graph algorithms, network science, and machine learning.

 

EVALUATION CRITERIA AND EVALUATION PANEL

The selection will be based on the following criteria:

1.   BSc final grade: 30%

2.   MSc current grade: 20%

4.   Curriculum: 25%

5.   Previous experience on algorithm engineering, graph algorithms, network science, and machine learning: 25%

 

The evaluation process includes the possibility of a professional selection interview for candidates with an assessment higher than 80% in the first phase.

If an interview is conducted, the punctuation proposed by each member of the evaluation panel is obtained by assigning a weighting factor of 50% to the curriculum vitae and other documentation presented, and a weighting factor of 50% to the interview.

Candidates with an average score below 70 are not recommended for hiring.

Each member of the evaluation panel assigns a classification to each of the candidates on a scale of 0 to 100 points, ranking the candidates according to their classification consisting on the sum of the partial classifications assigned in each evaluation criterion, and considering the weighting factor given to each parameter. In this process abstentions are not allowed.

 

Candidates will be ordered by the successive voting method.

 

If the requirements mentioned above are not fulfilled, the evaluation panel may choose not to select a candidate

 

Minutes of the evaluation panel meeting are drawn up containing a summary of what has taken place in the meeting, as well as the votes cast by each of the members and their reasons, being available to the candidates whenever requested.

 

The final deliberation of the evaluation panel must be approved by Executive Board of INESC-ID.

For candidates with degrees granted by foreign higher education institutions it is mandatory to have a degree or diploma recognition according to the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16th of August, (https://www.dges.gov.pt/en/pagina/degree-and-diploma-recognition) and all formalities established therein must be fulfilled, by the selected candidate, until the date of signature of the contract.

 

 

 

COMPLAIN AND APPEAL DEADLINES AND PROCEDURES

Candidates who submit their application incorrectly or who do not prove the requirements required in this public notice are excluded from admission. In case of doubt, the evaluation panel may demand any candidate to present documents proving those statements.

 

False statements by the candidates will be punished according to the law.

 

The admitted and excluded candidates will be notified by email of the final ranking list.

 

Prior Hearing and Deadline for Final Decision: After being notified, candidates have 10 working days to submit a formal rebuttal. Within the term of 30 days, counted from the deadline for the presentation of the candidacies, the final decisions of the evaluation panel are given.
