The research will be part of the project PRIN 2022 "PATHOS: PATHs Of the Soul. An Atlas of Ancient Emotions”. The project aims to provide an overview and some insights on the four main passions in Stoic theory (pleasure, pain, fear, desire) in Roman culture, including texts and artworks, and their Medieval reception, up to the renewing made by Descartes.
The researcher will collaborate to the project with a short philosophical-literary introduction, with an anthology of relevant passages, about the four quoted passions in Medieval philosophy as inherited by Roman culture, with some insight linked with his/her interests. He/she will also find several correspondent pieces of art in the collections of the Museo Nazionale Romano, with the help of the curators of the Museum. Texts, passages, and artworks will be the core of the project website
