The Department of Statistics at TU Dortmund University is offering the following position (starting at the earliest possible date):

Professorship (Open Rank W3 tenured or W2 with W3 tenure track) Statistics in Engineering

 

Our profile
Comprising 17 departments in the natural and engineering sciences as well as the humanities and social
sciences, TU Dortmund University is a dynamic university with a strong profile in research, teaching,
promotion of young scientists, and transfer.
The Department of Statistics at TU Dortmund University is the only statistics department in the Germanspeaking
countries, with particular strengths in interdisciplinary research. It offers a diverse environment by
leading and participating in several large collaborative research projects in statistics, computer science,
engineering, and social and life sciences. Its scientific network includes, among others, the Fraunhofer
Institutes IML and ISST, the Leibniz institutes IfADo and ISAS as well as the newly founded Research Center
"Trustworthy Data Science and Security" as part of the Research Alliance Ruhr. The Research Center builds a
scientific bridge between statistics, computer science and social sciences in order to increase trust in digital
technologies and methods. The DFG-funded TRR 391 "Spatio-temporal Statistics for the Transition of Energy
and Transport“ coordinated by the Department of Statistics will start in fall 2024.


Profile of the professorship
You represent the field of statistics in engineering in research and further develop it with international
visibility. You participate in research networks and cooperations within and outside the TU Dortmund, e.g. in
the Compe-tence Field Energy-System-Transformation of the University Alliance Ruhr and the TU Dortmund
Center for Data Science and Simulation (DoDaS). You are committed to promoting young scientists and
participate appropriately in the teaching of the Department in the area of statistics in engineering and
technometry.
In the case of the W2 professorship with W3 tenure track, the successful candidate will initially be appointed

Your qualifications
You have obtained a doctorate with above-average success and have acquired a post-doctoral lecture
qualification (Habilitation) or an equivalent qualification. You conduct research in the field of mathematicalstatistical
theory or methodology in engineering and technometry, which is evidenced by continuous
international publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals. Possible fields of research are in particular:
technometrically relevant data structures such as networks, time series or spatio-temporal data;
experimental design; statistical quality or process control; reliability theory; industrial data science. You also
demonstrate your research excellence through experience in acquiring third-party funding as well as via
international visibility and international research contacts. Additionally, for the W3 professorship, you can
already demonstrate success in the independent competitive acquisition of third-party funding, including
cooperative joint projects, you are integrated into international research networks and possess high
international visibility. Furthermore, you can demonstrate continuous international publication achievements
at a high level, especially in recent years, and the willingness to initiate cooperative joint projects.
Cooperations with the research areas of TRR 391 "Spatio-temporal Statistics for the Transition of Energy and
Transport" are desirable. All applicants will have the potential for teaching excellence. Social and leadership
skills and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration will complete your profile. Moreover,
the recruitment requirements in Section 36 and 37 HG NRW apply.
