Offer Description

La Rochelle University is currently recruiting to support the activities of the HYDRAUmath targeted project of the PEPR MathsViVeS (see context below).

The main tasks relate to data processing (multimodal field measurements), optimisation and operation of scientific computing codes prototyped by project researchers (in various programming languages), development of original codes in collaboration with project researchers, and the exploration of alternative methods based on deep learning.

The candidate will also be involved in the project's scientific dissemination activities.

HYDRAUmath is one of the five targeted projects of the PEPR MathsViVeS over the period 2024-2028.  It is coordinated by the MIA laboratory at La Rochelle University. It federates the research work of French and international collaborators around the same objective: a better understanding of the water cycle in coastal areas. Hydraumath aims to develop fundamental knowledge andpractical tools on key topics such as coastal hydro-morphodynamics coupled with coastal groundwater dynamics and the analysis of changes in the spatio-temporal properties of coastal hydrosystems under various anthropogenic/natural constraints. The project relies mainly on interdisciplinarity and collective work to overcome the difficulties of this highly exploratory subject.

The candidate will work in La Rochelle with all the teams involved in the project, in collaboration with researchers from different scientific communities (mathematics, hydrology, oceanography, etc.). The activities of the MIA laboratory in La Rochelle are characterised by research projects developed through very close collaboration between researchers from CNU sections 25, 26, 27 and 61. These projects involve both purely mathematical skills and skills related to data analysis and processing (images, videos, etc.) and learning methods (Machine & Deep Learning). A key research area is understanding the evolution of coastal hydrosystems. The person recruited will benefit from interactions with research networks consolidated by the laboratory.

Short, one-off assignments at other sites should be envisaged.
