Offer Description
The Science and Technology Park Foundation (FCPCT) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) - Spain offers one postdoctoral researcher contract to work in the project Neuronal Computing by CIPERBIG research group. In this project, the Intelligent Computing, Perception and Big Data Research Group (CIPERBIG) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) has as its main mission carrying out research in intelligent computing, neural computing applied to non-communicable diseases associated with aging and COVID-19, as well as Computational Neuroscience and Data Science. The FCPCT and the ULPGC will recruit the best candidates following the recommendations of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The job offer will be published through a wide range of portals. The evaluation of candidates and their selection criteria will be aligned with the ULPGC policies on equal opportunities. Selection and hiring procedures will follow transparent mechanisms according to national and regional legislation.

The work and responsibilities of the postdoctoral researcher will include the following topics:
- Development and supervision of research in the research line of the CIPERBIG Group"Artificial and Biological Neural Networks: Design of New Architectures" necessary adjusted to the project in which he/she is hired.
- Supervision and development of research in the field of intelligent computing and design,development, design, and development of clinical decision support systems such asdiagnosis and prognosis of neurocognitive pathologies, neurocognitive pathologiesassociated with aging (dementias) and infectious diseases (COVID) necessarily adjusted to the project in which he is hired
Candidates must comply with the following conditions:
1. Nationality:
- Spanish nationality or that of one of the other member states of the European Union.
- Whatever his nationality, spouses of Spaniards and nationals of other Member States of the European Union.
- People included into International Agreements concluded by the European Union and ratified by Spain, related to free movement of workers.
- Foreign candidates not included in the above paragraphs, legally resident in Spain.
2. Age: Be over eighteen.
3. Qualification: Hold a Ph.D. degree in computer science, electronics and telecommunications, bioengineering, data science or equivalent, as well as a bachelor's degree in computer engineering, data science engineering, electronics and telecommunications, biomedical engineering, bioengineering, degree in Physics, in mathematics, or equivalent.
Additional Information
1. This contract is related to specific work and services to be developed by CIPERBIG research group in the context the project Neuronal Computing, granted by the Consejería de Vicepresidencia Primera y Obras Públicas, Infraestructuras, Transporte y Movilidad del Cabildo de Gran Canaria (Grant 23/2021, November 29th, 2021), which will end on the May 31th, 2025.
2. The expected start date for the contract is July 2024.
3. This position requires full-time dedication (37,5 hours per week).
4. Gross salary: 2.111,62 €/month.
5. The selected person will work at Edificio de Informática y Matemáticas, Campus Universitario de Tafira s/n, 35017 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
6. There will be a trial period of 6 months.
The admitted applicants will be evaluated according the following items and scores:
- Experience (Max 3,75 points)
Professional experience as a researcher in projects related to intelligent computing, neural computation, specifically and biomedical computing. Development work in interdisciplinary, biomedical, clinical and computational fields.
- Scientific Merits (Max 3.5 points)
Relevant scientific publications in the field of the position. Publications in the JCR and in core conferences A++, A+, A. (0.5 points for each publication up to a maximum of 2.0 points).
Relevant scientific publications in the field of the position, belonging to other rankings (SJR and others) and in Core B conferences (0.25 points for each publication up to a maximum of 1.0 points).
Participation in research, research training or stays in foreign universities, with a minimum of 1 month.
- Complementary training (Max 1.75 points).
Possession of other qualifications related to those required (0.5 points per qualification up to a maximum of 1.0 point).
Participation in courses, conferences, seminars, workshops in the field of the position (0.25 points for each of them of 2 hours or more, up to a maximum of 0.75 points).
- Languages (Max 1.0 point)
English: CEFR level B2 (0.5 points) or higher (1.0 point).
If necessary, the Commission will invite the candidates with the three best scores to an interview, which will be held in Spanish and/or English. In order to pass the interview, it will be necessary to obtain a score of at least 5 points (up to a maximum of 10 points), and the following aspects will be evaluated:
- Initiative and ability to work in a team.
- Ability to explain and present results.
- Motivation.
- Adequacy of your profile and capabilities to the functions of the position.
- Knowledge of the sector in which you will be working.
The Commission may also propose the creation of a reserve list for cases of resignation, failure to justify the requirements, or failure to pass the trial period of the initially designated applicant, as well as for future substitutions due to illness, maternity / paternity, etc. It may also propose to declare the square deserted.
