Offer Description
Within the ANR « DEVISE » project (https://anr.fr/Projet-ANR-20-CE19-0018), the recruited candidate will investigate the behaviour and the perceptual performance of low vision patients immersed in a Virtual Reality (VR) headset.
During the project (12 months + possibility of extension), the recruited person will focus on three main missions :
- run with patients (and age-matched control subjects) a series of experiments whose general goal is to measure the ability of patients to interact within a VR environment through pointing tasks.
- analyse the results of these experiments.
- and start to write an article for a scientific journal in the field of visual neuroscience.
1. Recruit low-vision patients through telephone calls.
2. Run with patients with patients in an ophthalmology center some of the experiments described in the ANR project DEVISE. The methods will be in the framework of experimental methods and questionnaire studies. In these experiments, low vision persons will perform visuo-motor tasks while seating and wearing a VR headset.
3. Run the same experiments as described above with age-matched persons (controls).
4. Edit slightly Python scripts that control experiments in order to modify the parameters specific to each experiment. The experiments will have been created as python scripts by permanent researchers of the project. These scripts will use an open-source software called « PTVR » (Perception Toolbox for Virtual Reality) and developed by our group (https://ptvr.inria.fr).
5. Analyse the experimental data with with the open-source Rstudio software.
6. Participate in the writing of scientific papers corresponding to experimental results
7. Participate in a national or international conference to present results.
The recruited candidate will work with an employment contract from the CNRS, an internationnally renown French multidisciplinary research organisation, and will be based in the « Centre de Recherche en Psychologie et Neuroscience - CRPN» (UMR 7077 CNRS/AMU- https://crpn.univ-amu.fr/fr/). This research unit is located in the center of Marseilles on the «Saint-Charles » University site and benefits from its integration within a vast network of Neuroscience laboratories. A large part of the recruited candidate's work will be in a medical center of Marseilles which specialises in retinopathies, the Monticelli-Paradis Ophthalmology Center (https://www.monticelli-paradis-retine.com/), where experiments with low vision patients will be performed.
The other part of the work will be in the CRPN in the Saint-Charles university site within the «Sens, Mouvement, Perception - SPM » group, a pluridisciplinary team of 6 CNRS permanent researchers whose research concerns the investigation of sensory-motor processes. This project benefits from the financial and logistical resources of the CRPN unit, of the SPM team and of the ANR DEVISE project.
