University of Wroclaw invites applications for the research position of assistant at the Centre for the Study of the Ancient World  at the Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences

Applications are invited from those who fulfil the statutory requirements specified in the Higher Education Act from 20th July 2018 (Dz. U. z 2018 r., poz. 1668) and the statutes of the University of Wroclaw.

An assistant in the Center for the Study of the Ancient World, Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences, University of Wroclaw within the NAWA Chair project "From the Achaemenids to the Romans: Contextualizing empire and its longue-durée developments". The candidate is expected to be:

  1. A PhD student in classics/ ancient history/ ancient oriental studies.
  2. She/he should have good knowledge of Greek and Latin.
  3. She/he should have reading ability in relevant modern languages other than English.

Additionally, the following are highly desirable:

  1. Any additional language of the ancient Near East or Latin is a bonus.
  2. Other essential criteria are: publications (journal articles, chapters in edited volumes, books, authored or edited) and conference papers in antiquity studies.

Responsibilities at the workplace:

  1. The successful candidate is expected to do doctoral level research on elite in the Levant confronted with the transformation of empires in the ancient Near East. The PI of the project will assign research tasks to the assistant.
  2. She/he is also expected to participate in conferences.
  3. She/he is also expected to publish no less one journal papers for the duration of the project.

  4. Statement whether the University of Wrocław will be the primary place of work in the case of winning the competition (download Workplace Statement).
  5. Declaration of the discipline in which the candidate will conduct research, and in the case of people conducting research in more than one discipline, the percentage of their involvement in each of these disciplines (download Declaration of scientific discipline).
  6. Summary of research and educational accomplishments as well as others, connected with organization and popularization of research; please include relevant information on your academic mobility.
  7. List of up to 5 best academic publications published no earlier than 2013.
  8. PDF of up to three publications most representative of your research profile, or an explanation of the lack of them, provided that the Chairman of the Committee may expect all or selected scientific publications or other documents to be submitted.
  9. Two letters of reference submitted directly by referees to Head of the Board (e-mail address: pawel.klint@uwr.edu.pl); the candidate forfeits hereby her/his rights to access  these letters.
  10. Information about languages you know.
  11. Information on research grants in which you are a PI or investigator awarded and/or implemented within 10 years prior to submitting the application; please list grants awarded by ERC, other international agencies, Foundation for Polish Science, National Science Centre and Ministry for Science and Higher Education (Poland); please declare the amount of money granted.
  12. List of papers presented to international conferences over the last 10 years.
  13. Declaration – article 113 the Law on Higher Education and Science (download Declaration – Article 113).
