Offer Description
The main aim of the Barcelona Center for European Studies (from now onwards, BACES) is to create and consolidate critical mass on EU Studies at the Department of Political and Social Sciences of Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) as well as to provide quality teaching, research and dissemination activities on issues related to EU affairs.
Given the need to further expand our research activities, coupled to a desire to further increase our staff and provide an opportunity to young researchers, BACES is officially offering a position for a Research Assistant (Full-time) and a Research Assistant (Part-time).
The main duties require:
- To provide scientific assistance in the strategic research management of BACES.
- To provide direct technical assistance to the Director of the Center.
- To collaborate into the editing/writing scientific publications relative to European Studies (EU Governance, EU Public Policy analysis) aiming at publication in high-ranking journals, as well as assisting to the collection/analysis/elaboration of qualitative and quantitative data for the research.
- To assist and participate into the management of academic and dissemination research projects relative to EU Studies (i.e. National I+D projects, EU Jean Monnet Actions, Erasmus Mundus in European Studies).
The candidates will assist the process of supporting research on EU public policies and EU policy-making. The candidate will be in charge of the following tasks:
- Analyzing data
- Developing innovative quantitative and qualitative frameworks for the analysis of themes related to EU public policies, EU policy process and EU policy-making in the European Parliament and other acts.
Support the writing of scientific reports of the analysis implemented

- PhD or equivalent
- Experience in social science research methods with extensive knowledge of Stata or R programs and previously experienced in working with data. A minimum requirement for candidates is that they must hold a Degree and MA/PhD in Social Sciences, preferably Political Sciences. Background knowledge and/or interest in EU Governance will be highly considered.
- Strong ability for multi-tasking and attending to several short, medium and long-term deadlines.
- Experience working as Research Assistant into an academic/scientific environment will be positively evaluated.
- Capability for adapting both to autonomous and coordinated tasks.
- An achiever mentality with a strong responsibility to complete each assigned task.
- A strong to-do attitude willing to provide feedback on duties.
- Languages: High-level of English.
- DESIRABLE: Knowledge of Catalan and Spanish, knowledge of other European languages will be considered a plus (i.e. Italian, French).
- HIGHLY DESIRABLE: Previous knowledge of EU governance, decision-making processes and public policies; proven research background in the field.

Benefits for the opening
Type of contract: Indefinite, in accordance with the terms of article 23 bis of Law 14/2011, of 1 June, on Science, Technology and Innovation.
The selected candidates will be contracted to work 35 hours per week (full time position) and 15-20 hours per week (part time position) initially up to 12 months (although the contract could be extended) under a Research Support Personnel (PSR) contract Group 3, with a total annual gross salary of 29.393,35 € (full time position).
Availability to begin working as soon as possible: September/October 2024
