The Department of Biotechnology, Institute of Cell and Tissue Culture Technologies is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate.

Extent of employment:         40 hours per week

Duration of employment:      1st of July 2024, limited to 30th of June 2025 (with option for a temporary extension until 30.06.2028)

Gross monthly salary and pay grade in terms of collective agreement for university staff (payable 14 times per year) (for 40 h/week): B1 lit. b, € 4.752,30

We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist with experience in stem cells, biomaterials and/or bioreactors. The position comprises experimental laboratory work, teaching as well as administrative tasks.

Responsibilities:

• Cell culture technology, working with primary cells and cell lines
• Development of novel upstream and downstream strategies and methods for stem cell isolation, expansion and differentiation as well as production and isolation of cell-based components/substances in 2D and 3D formats
• Design and optimization of bioreactor systems for cell culture processes incl. integration of biosensors and monitoring
• Planning, execution and evaluation of experiments; presentation and publication of results (conferences/lectures)
• Coordination and management of projects
• Guidance and supervision of employees, incl. students and doctoral candidates
• Laboratory organization and management
• Proposal and grant writing
• Active involvement in teaching, seminars and workshops

Required skills and qualifications:

• PhD in biotechnology or equivalent field of life sciences
• Publications in the field of 3D cell culture and bioreactors
• Experience with employment of biomaterials
• Experience with biosensors/monitoring systems in cell culture systems
• Openness to interdisciplinary collaborations
• Excellent English (written and spoken)
• Experience with presenting research findings at international conferences
• Substantial knowledge and experience with writing scientific publications and funding proposals
• Experience with grant/proposal writing; preferably successful acquisition of third party funding
• Experience with teaching as well as supervision and guidance of students
• Advanced proficiency in German is advantageous (opportunity to improve within the first year)
• Willigness to work in an international team
• Independent working
• Capacity for team work

Additional information:

The employment can be extended for additional 3 years after the first year.
