The Institute of Movement Sciences (ISM), a multidisciplinary Joint Research Unit (UMR 7287), under the co-administration of Aix-Marseille University and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), is seeking to fill two full-time positions of a:

 

Doctoral Research Associate

EU MSCA Fellow

(salary level E 13 – gross salary 3400€-3 900€ + family allowance if eligible)

 

for the EU-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Network “Translational Research Network in Motor Disorder Rehabilitation: Advancing understanding of variability in motor control and learning, to enhance clinical practice (TReND), starting October 2024. We are offering a fixed-term full-time PhD position for 3 years under the co-supervision of Dr. Rita Sleimen-Malkoun and Prof. Jean-Jacques Temprado.

 

Your tasks:

  • Investigating how the structure of behavioural and physiological variability relates to training outcomes on cognition, motor control and their interactions.
  • Measuring and analysing physiological and behavioural variability in different populations (healthy younger and older adults, and clinical populations).
  • The implementation of multimodal training programs including physical, cognitive, and mental stimulations.
  • Communication and dissemination of research results to different target audiences and sectors (e.g., research, clinical, and industry).
  • Publication of research results in internationally recognized journals and conferences.
  • Collaboration with an international consortium in the externally funded MSCA doctoral network.
  • Participation in the network’s training programme including in person events (e.g., summer schools) and online events (e.g., lecture series, colloquia etc.).
  • The position is tied to working towards a doctorate.

Our expectations:

  • A graduate (Master’s) degree in Sport and Exercise Science, or in Human Movement Science, or in Cognitive Science, or in Neuroscience, or in Biomedical Engineering, or related studies is required.
  • MSCA mobility rule must be implemented: candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in France for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before their date of recruitment (October 1st, 2024).
  • Candidates are not allowed to hold a doctoral degree. 
  • Solid knowledge in human movement analysis, or neuroscience methods (EEG or EMG).
  • Programming skills for data processing and analysis (e.g., R, MATLAB).
  • Good knowledge of statistical methods.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Basic French knowledge and the willingness to learn the language.
  • Willingness to visit network partners in Germany, and the Netherlands (maximum duration: three months visit).
  • Willingness to travel to different international network events.

Desirable:

  • Basic or advanced knowledge of time-series analysis and non-linear methods.
  • Previous experience in working with human participants.
  • Previous experience in aging research.
  • Good communication and organisation skills, self-reliance, and team orientation.

Advantages for you:

By joining the EU-funded Doctoral Network TReND you will join an interdisciplinary and intersectoral training network involving 6 beneficiaries, 2 employing associated partners and several associated partners. The network will provide online and in-person training to support the fellows in obtaining their doctorate degree including 2 secondments to consortium partners.
