Offer Description

The Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics Polish Academy of Sciences is looking for highly motivated, experienced scientists to establish an independent research group in microbiology in the field related to host-pathogen interactions or medical microbiology. Candidates are expected to study molecular, cellular and pathophysiological mechanisms of bacterial infections to improve diagnostics or develop drug candidates against resistant pathogens. They are expected to integrate with the IBB PAS community and complement the existing research at IBB PAS (ibb.edu.pl/en/research/laboratories/). They are anticipated to build a dynamic group conducting high-quality research, develop dynamic international cooperation, prepare and launch interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research projects addressing the above topics and successfully apply for research funding through research grants.

  • PhD in the related field and postdoc experience
  • Research expertise confirmed by recognizable publications in microbiology and related areas
  • Proficiency in leading and inspiring research teams, fostering collaboration, and achieving ambitious scientific goals
  • A history of successful securing funding from competitive sources, indicative of the strategic vision and persuasive grant-writing skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capability of captivating diverse stakeholders, elucidating complex scientific concepts with clarity, and building persistent professional relationships
  • Language requirements: fluency in English, welcome Polish
  • Type of the position: R3 or R4, depending on the experience

Selection process

Recruitment process information:

The recruitment process will be a three-step procedure:

  • First step: Evaluation of the candidates will be based on sent documentation. We reserve the right to contact only with selected persons.
  • Second step: The selected applicants will be interviewed (on-site or on-line). They will then be asked to submit their research proposals, which will outline their plans for the upcoming five years, encompassing future grant applications, team composition, equipment requisites, estimated space allocation, and needed (desired) infrastructure.
  • Third step: Up to three candidates will be invited for an on-site seminar for the Institute community.
  • The Recruitment Committee will prepare the candidates' rankings and make recommendations based on steps 2 and 3.

All candidates selected for stages 2 and 3 will be notified of the results of the recruitment procedure.
