Department of Japanese Studies has an open position of Assistant or Assistant Professor with a focus on modern Japan. For the position of Assistant Professor, the prerequisite is a completed doctoral degree; for the position of Assistant, doctoral degree in an advanced stage of research is desirable.
MAIN JOB CONTENT
Education
- Participating in lectures or other forms of teaching in the Bachelor’s degree programme of “Japanese Studies.” Primarily, the position is open for a specialist in modern Japan, modern Japanese society, alternatively given the applicant’s qualifications and needs of the department.
- Supervising, consulting, or reviewing Bachelor’s theses.
- Participating in organization and administration of the department, especially in matters related to its pedagogical activity.
- Additionally for the position of Assistant Professor:
- Participation in final state exam committee(s).
Research
Participation in research, development, and innovation activities, especially:
- Independent research and development of research projects in the field of Japanese Studies;
- Publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals, scientific monographs, or peer-reviewed proceedings;
- Active participation in domestic and foreign scientific conferences and professional meetings, including the presentation of quality research results;
- Additionally for the position of Assistant Professor:
- Submission of grant projects.
Other
Participation in ensuring operational and administrative activities related to the academic position according to the instructions of the department head, e.g.:
- routine administrative tasks in the realization of individual courses, use of e-learning modules and communication with students via the MU Information System.

- Master’s Degree in the field of Japanese Studies or related academic area – condition.
- Ph.D. – a completed Doctoral Degree in the field of Japanese Studies or related academic area – condition for the position of Assistant Professor, a Doctoral Degree in progress is a condition for the position of Assistant.
- Good track and publication record in the field of Japanese Studies or related academic area – condition.
- Professional focus on modern/contemporary Japan – advantage.
- For the position of Assistant Professor, an abroad study, research, or teaching experience is a condition.
- Experience with participation in international research projects is considered an advantage.
Length of experience required
- Teaching or research experience in the field is considered an advantage, although no specific length of time is prescribed.
Language skills
- Knowledge of the English language at C1 level – condition.
- Knowledge of the Japanese language at B2 level – condition.
- Good knowledge of the Czech language in both written and spoken form – advantage.
