Offer Description

Three PhD position sponsored by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Doctoral Network EMPOWER-6G is offered at IQUADRAT INFORMATICA SL, Barcelona, Spain.

Iquadrat, based in Barcelona, provides ICT services since 1997.

The Doctoral Candidate will join the recently launched EXACT-6G Doctoral Network which is funded by the Horizon Europe Research Program through the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action, under the title: “Explainable Automation for Continuum 6G infrastructures”.

EXACT-6G research project aims to propose, design and validate a novel and agile 6G system architecture and enabling technologies, combining RIS with a Compute Continuum infrastructure and Distributed, Intelligent orchestration that seamlessly integrates Cloud, Edge and Far Edge nodes under a self-synthesized and self-managed PaaS system. Furthermore, EXACT-6G proposes new concepts, such as Pervasive Orchestration, and designs new Explainable AI models for for scalable, autonomous control of the infrastructure, and allows microservices to “follow” users, being tracked by Joint Communication and Sensing mechanisms. In this context, EXACT-6G will build a training network of 10 Doctoral Candidates who will conduct top-notch research towards the development and experimental evaluation of a gamut of techniques, methodological frameworks and tools.

The Doctoral candidates hosted by IQU will develop individual projects on:

IQU1- Intra-DIMO CEC resource discovery, prediction and composition. His/her work will address (i) Overcome challenges related to the dynamicity of computing resource pool; (ii) Design an abstraction layer to simplify intra-DIMO resource management; (iii) create resource pool profile prediction using AI/ML. The expected results are: (i) AI/ML resource prediction models; (ii) define VIM resource discovery algorithmsincluding far edge; (iii) define an abstraction layer to simplify resource composition; (iv) use RIS abstraction to track far-edge mobility.

IQU-2- Inter-DIMO CEC resource discovery, prediction and composition. His/her work will address i) overcome the challenges of inter DIMO service deployment - CEC resource discovery, prediction and composition. The expected results are: (i) inter DIMO CEC resource discovery algorithms; (ii) AI/ML models to build DIMO CEC resource profiles; (iii) distributed service composition algorithms for inter-DIMO deployment.

IQU-3- Pervasive orchestration algorithms for self-synthesized continuum infrastructures. His/her work will address (i) Offer a reliable orchestration solution over an infrastructure with capacity constrained, dynamic and intermittent nodes with a MARL scheme that addresses stability and convergence problems (ii)integrate and test this solution with the Explainable DIMO and PaaS frameworks in an end-to-end Metaverse scenario at the IQU 5G/6G testbed. The expected results are: (i) Design and validation of a “Pervasive Orchestration” scheme of cooperating AI agents that offer distributed service orchestration (ii) Propose and test conflict resolution approaches for the distributed AI (e.g., MARL) agents and (iii) Integration of distributed AI agents with the DIMO framework, to reflect changes of policy objectives to the underlying continuum infrastructure.

The Doctoral Candidate will be offered a three-year, full-time contract as well as enrollment to a PhD program in a nearby university.  An up-to-six months secondment is foreseen at a project member of the consortium as integral part of the contract as integral part of the contract.

In addition to developing his/her research project, the DC will:

  • learn to master academic writing and author journal publications.
  • present his/her work at projects workshops, plenary meetings and international conferences.
  • participate in secondments to consortium partners.
  • contribute to the supervision of undergraduate students.

Candidates should send their applications by May 31st through https://www.exact6g.eu/oaf-2024. Incorporations will start as of Jun2024.
