OPEN CALL FOR RESEARCH GRANT APPLICATION WITHIN THE TERMS LAID DOWN OF THE REGULATIONS FOR RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS OF THE ASSOCIATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ACADEMIC CENTER FOR RESEARCH AND BIOMEDICAL TRAINING OF THE ALGARVE (AD-ABC)

TITLE: Research Scholarship (RS) - graduated students; Two scholarships.

It is now open a call for two Research Scholarships (RS) - graduated students under the project R&D 2022.01028.PTDC – BBBrain – "Study of BUB1 in neurodevelopment: identification of new functions," with the following conditions:

Research Field: Biomedical Sciences or related areas.

Admission requirements: Graduated student in the field of Biomedical Sciences or related, with knowledge of cell culture, molecular and cellular biology. The scholar must have practical and theoretical knowledge in Cell and Molecular Biology and its molecular tools. Additionally, a candidate with a considerable degree of expertise in a set of specialized experimental techniques, such as cell culture, protein interaction analysis, western blot, and PCR (scholarship 1), differentiation, reprogramming, and cultivation of stem cells (scholarship 2) is desired. These comply with the provisions of the Association for the Development of the Academic Center for Research and Biomedical Training of the Algarve (AD-ABC) research grant regulations).

Work plan: This grant is awarded to assist in the execution of the project indicated above, namely, to fulfill the objectives outlined for the project: 1) Study of non-canonical functions of BUB1 in neurodevelopment; 2) Study of BUB1 functions during neurodevelopment.

Applicable Legislation and regulations: Statute of Scientific Research Fellow, approved by the Law No. 40/2004, from 18 of August, conferred by the Decree Law No. 123/2019, of August 28 and the Research Grants Regulation of Foundation for Science and Technology, IP (FCT).

Workplace: The work will be carried out at research group "Chromosome segregation in diseases" at the ABC-Ri (Algarve Biomedical Center - Research institute), at the University of Algarve on the Gambelas Campus, part of the Academic Center for Research and Biomedical Training of the Algarve, designated by ABC – Algarve Biomedical Center, under the scientific coordination of the Sara Carvalhal, PhD.

Duration of the grant (s): The grant will last for 6 months, starting on March 2024. The scholarship contract cannot be renewable.
Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The monthly maintenance allowance corresponds to €990.98, Annex I at https://abcmedicalg.pt/app/abc/files-module/local/documents/Regulamento…. The maintenance allowance will be paid monthly by bank transfer.

Selection criteria will be as follows: Curriculum evaluation (70%). The curriculum evaluation will be based on the following points: academic qualifications [45 points], experience in carrying out experimental work/relevant laboratory techniques in the context of the project [45 points], and proficiency in English [10 points]. Motivation letter (30%) Very low motivation – [20 points]; Low motivation – [40 points]; Good motivation - [60 points]; Very good motivation - [70 points]; Excellent motivation - [100 points] Criteria for appreciation and weighting of the Professional Interview: Specific knowledge for the function [100 points]. The weighting to be assigned to each of the ratings will be the set of curriculum evaluation + motivation letter + interview (if applicable). The Jury may interview the first two candidates on the list ranked by curriculum evaluation + motivation letter. The final ranking will be expressed on a scale of 0 to 20.

The tender jury shall comprise the following members: The evaluation panel consists of three full members and 1 substitute (all PhDs):

Publication and notification of the results: Final results will be publicized through an ordered list according to the final grade and posted in a conspicuous and public local of ABC-Ri and Academic Center for Research and Biomedical Training of the Algarve, designated by ABC – Algarve Biomedical Center, and the successful candidate as well as all the other candidates will be notified by email.

Deadline for applications and submission forms: The call is open from 21/02/2024 to 05/03/2024.

Applications must be accompanied by the following documents:
- Official identification document (simple copy or legal equivalent). If you have a nationality other than Portuguese, you should present a residence permit, permanent residence certificate or long-term resident status, valid on the scholarship start date, any of which may be replaced, in its absence, by a declaration of commitment. However, one of the previous must be delivered at the contracting phase, under penalty of forfeiture of the granting of the scholarship;
- Copy of the qualification certificates of the academic degrees held, specifying the final classification and, if possible, the classifications obtained in all subjects taken;
- If the doctorate has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must conform to the rules established in Decree-Law No. 66/2018 of August 16, and all required formalities must be complied with up to the date of termination deadline for submission of the application. If the completed process is not found until the end of the application deadline, the candidate must prove that he / she has requested the recognition of the degree;
- Curriculum Vitae;
- Passport or identification card for European applicants (copy);
- Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) or legal equivalent;
- Other documents considered important;

If the Application Request is sent by email, the applicant must duly express his/her consent that all notifications regarding this application are sent to the email address given.

Grant contract Documents:
- Supporting documents stating that the applicant gathers all the requirements for this grant, namely the enrolment certificate in an awarding degree study cycle or in a postgraduate course;
- Supervisor Declaration taking the responsibility for the Work plan supervision, according to article 5º-A of the Statute of Scientific Research Fellow, as well as assuring the necessary conditions for the development of the work plan and in compliance with article 13 º of the Statute of Scientific Research Fellow;
- Declaration of the Grant acceptance;
- Declaration of commitment stating the exclusivity regime.

Complaints and Appeal Deadlines and procedures:
On the decision for granting the Research Grant, candidates may, if they wish, comment on the hearing of interested parties, within 10 working days, under the terms provided for in the Administrative Procedure Code.
From the practice or omission of any act of the evaluation panel, candidates can complain to the body, within 10 working days.
The final decision of the evaluation panel can be appealed to the Board of AD-ABC within 15 working days after the respective notification.
AD-ABC reserves the right to cancel this application procedure if by any means the contract celebration with the funding entity is not established.
