Offer Description
Tender open for the award of 2 Research Grants for PhD students. These grants are funded by the European Union (European Research Council, Grant Agreement n. 101088956) within the scope of the R&D project FILM AND DEATH - Film-Philosophy as a Meditation on Death.
Work plan: During the course of the scholarship, the candidate will be expected to:
1. diligently carry out all the activities required to conclude the proposed doctoral project (including submitting work for publication and participating in scientific events relevant to the field);
2. develop research activities within the objectives of the FILM AND DEATH project under the supervision of the PI;
3. participate in the various activities of the FILM AND DEATH research group.
The fellow will work under the scientific orientation of Susana Viegas.
Duration of the scholarship: The duration of the scholarships is annual, renewable up to a maximum of four years (48 months).
Form of submission of applications: Applications and supporting documents must be submitted by email to ifilnova@fcsh.unl.pt, with the subject FILM AND DEATH_BI_M.
Candidates must apply by e-mail, in which they must include the following documents:
- Curriculum vitae;
- Certificates of academic degrees held;
- In the case of academic degrees obtained at foreign higher education institutions, registration of recognition of academic degrees awarded or, alternatively, the applicant's declaration of honor on how he/she will request the recognition of a foreign degree equivalent to that of a graduate until the scholarship is contracted;
- Proof of enrolment in a PhD Programme on Art Studies - Art and Mediation, offered by the NOVA University Lisbon;
- Motivation letter (1 page);
- Work Plan (maximum 2000 words) written in English, including: the provisional title; the abstract; brief state of the art; research questions and objectives; methodology; up to 10 bibliographical references; an explanatory note on how the proposed PhD project fits into and/or contributes to the activities developed by the FILM AND DEATH research group (filmdeath.fcsh.unl.pt). The projects submitted by the candidates must fall within the following philosophical research topics: Cinema and Death; Cinema and Time.

Additional Information
The scholarship amount is 1259,64€ per month ccording to the table of scholarship values directly attributed by FCT, I.P. in the country. To this value is added the voluntary social insurance corresponding to the first level, in case the candidate opts for its attribution, as well as the personal accident insurance.
The evaluation takes into account the merit of the applicant, the merit of the motivation letter and the merit of the work plan.
All admitted applications must be graded from 1 to 20 in each of the following evaluation criteria:
Criterion A – Merit of the Applicant, with a weight of 30%:
Sub-criterion A1 – Scientific, cultural or technological production (books, book chapters, theses, articles in indexed scientific journals, communications at national and international scientific congresses), with a weight of 15%.
Sub-criterion A2 – Participation in scientific projects, with a weight of 5%.
Sub-criterion A3 – Organization of scientific events (5%)
Subcriterion A4 – Recognition of the scientific community (awards, fellowships, editorial activities, peer reviewing) (5%)
Criterion B – Merit of the Motivation Letter, with a weight of 30%:
Criterion C – Merit of the work plan, with a weigh of 40%;
Candidates whose application is evaluated with a final score below 16 points are not eligible for the scholarship.
