Applicants must hold a master’s degree in journalism or communication sciences and be enrolled in a PhD programme in Communication Sciences (according to Article 6 of the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (Reg. no. 950/2019).
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries need to be registered by a Portuguese institution in accordance with Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August, and Ministerial Order no. 33/2019, of 25 January. A presentation of the certificate is mandatory for signing the contract.

a) Experience in collecting and analysing documentation and statistical information;
b) Experience in conducting qualitative interviews;
c) At least 10 years' experience as a journalist, with greater experience being valued, particularly in editing or management positions;
d) Experience as a trainer and/or teacher;
e) Production of research in the specific area of journalism within the scope of the PhD in Communication Sciences.

Additional Information
Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance
The amount corresponds to €1,199.64 in accordance with the FCT Research Grant Regulations in force (Regulation No. 950/2019). The amount of the allowance is increased by the corresponding voluntary social insurance, if the candidate chooses to take it out, as well as personal accident insurance. The grant will be paid monthly by bank transfer.
Selection methods
The selection process will be based on curricular assessment. In the event that several candidates demonstrate that they have the right profile to carry out the work plan, the selection board reserves the right to call candidates for an interview, which will have a weighting of 40 % in the final grade. If the selection board considers that interviews are not necessary, the final weighting of the curricular assessment will be 100%.
The curricular assessment criteria are based on:
a) the grade for the master's degree in journalism or communication (30%);
b) the grade for the bachelor's degree (30%);
c) the experience demonstrated in the items indicated in the preferential factors (40%).
The curricular assessment of the candidates will be carried out in accordance with the criteria indicated and will be carried out on an integer scale between 0 and 20.
The selection board reserves the right to:
a) invite the highest-scoring candidate to the position in question, following the order established in the final ranking list, whenever the selected candidate does not meet the requirements for formalizing the contract or in the event of unavailability;
b) not awarding the grant if none of the candidates matches the desired profile.
Composition of the selection panel
Candidates will be selected by a jury made up of: Dr Gustavo Cardoso (CIES-Iscte), who will preside, and the members Dr Cláudia Álvares (CIES-Iscte) and Dr Tiago Lapa (CIES-Iscte).
Notification of results
The results of the assessment will be publicized by means of a list of those admitted and excluded and a final ranking list, and all candidates will be notified by email. The Hearing of Interested Parties takes place within 10 working days of the results being announced.

The competition is open from 26 January to 08 February 2024.
