Offer Description
UiT The Arctic University of Norway has established «The Arctic MSCA-PF program» (uit.no/project/arcticmsca) to recruit excellent young researchers planning to apply for a Marie Skƚodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF) to pursue a career in research. We invite applications from promising young researchers within the field of Wireless and Satellite Communications: 6G network and technologies; Integrated Satellite and Terrestrial Network (ISTN); Autonomous Vehicle Communications; ML/AI in Communications. The selected candidate will write a proposal for a 24-month MSCA-PF at UiT together with Associate Professor Tu Dac Ho. This is an opportunity to accelerate your research career while living in the city of Narvik, uniquely located at the top of the world surrounded by some of Europe’s last pristine wild nature.
This call is one of 70 from pre-selected supervisors at UiT The Arctic University of Norway through the “Arctic MSCA-PF program”. Successful postdoc candidates will be invited for a three-day MSCA-PF symposium June 4-6, 2024 (hybrid physical/digital event, see details at uit.no/project/arcticmsca/program-structure). At this event, the candidates will present their past research achievements, discuss future plans with their potential supervisor and learn how to write a successful MSCA-PF application. The selected candidates will, jointly with the supervisor, write the MSCA-PF application by the deadline of September 11, 2024.
In this call we search for talented, young researchers within the field of Wireless and Satellite Communications: 6G network and technologies; Integrated Satellite and Terrestrial Network (ISTN); Autonomous Vehicle Communications; ML/AI in Communications as presented by Associate Professor Ho:
My interests include wireless communications and networking, including MAC protocols, IoT, WSN, network and system optimization for an integration with Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN), which may include spaceborne and airborne vehicles. I am active in these projects: 1) Small satellite project at UiT; 2) A national funded project in space debris detection and monitoring; 3) (Norwegian) PI of an EU project in energy harvesting and low power consumption data protocol for IoT devices in remote regions; 4) A co-PI of a project fully financed by Japan Science and Technology Agency for conducting research collaborations between Japan and the top teams from USA, Norway, Canada, UK, and Australia, in the areas of new technologies such as 6G, NTN and its integration with terrestrial network. This is to search for talent PhDs who want to develop solutions for a broad area information sharing via the integration of aerial and terrestrial networks. The aerial network can include satellites (spaceborne) and HAPS and Drones (airborne). I am interested in projects on challenges such as network topology, network resources allocation, energy consumption, latency etc. for such wide area, fast changing, three dimensions networks. Such projects also propose an efficient method to predict and control the network to meet such demands from a wide range of applications such as in autonomous driving, autonomous shipping.
Please send your CV (max 3 pages) and describe a research project that will strengthen and complement the presented research (max 2 pages) to tu.d.ho@uit.no by Feb 16th 2024. Mark your application "Arctic MSCA". Successful candidates will be contacted in late March 2024.

Additional Information
- Supported fellows must be in possession of a doctoral degree at the time of the call deadline. Applicants who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but who have not yet formally been awarded the doctoral degree are also eligible to apply.
- At the call deadline, supported researchers must have a maximum of 8 years full-time equivalent experience in research, measured from the date of award of the doctoral degree. Years of experience outside research and career breaks (e.g. due to parental leave), will not count towards the amount of research experience. Find Self-Assessment Tool to calculate your eligibility here.
- Recruited researchers must comply with the following mobility rule: they must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the beneficiary (for European Postdoctoral Fellowships), or the host organisation for the outgoing phase (for Global Postdoctoral Fellowships) for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the call deadline.
