10 PhD positions for 6G-networks development withMSCA-DN EXACT-6G

EXACT-6G is a Doctoral Network funded by the Horizon Europe Research Program through the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action, under the title “Explainable Automation for Continuum 6G infrastructures”.

As such, it is announcing 10 PhD positions in 6G networks development by its partners in four different European countries (Greece, Spain, France and Finland).

EXACT-6G research project aims to propose, design and validate a novel and agile 6G system architecture and enabling technologies, combining RIS with a Compute Continuum infrastructure and Distributed, Intelligent orchestration that seamlessly integrates Cloud, Edge and Far Edge nodes under a self-synthesized and self-managed PaaS system. Furthermore, EXACT-6G proposes new concepts, such as Pervasive Orchestration, and designs new Explainable AI models for for scalable, autonomous control of the infrastructure, and allows microservices to “follow” users, being tracked by Joint Communication and Sensing mechanisms.

In this context, EXACT-6G will build a training network to conduct top-notch research towards the development and experimental evaluation of a gamut of techniques, methodological frameworks and tools. The 10 Doctoral Candidates (DCs) will be hosted by the Project partners in cities like Barcelona (Spain), Sophia Antipolis (Nice, France), Paris (France), Patras (Greece) and Oulu (Finland) and offered a three-year, exclusive, and full-time contract as well as enrollment to a PhD program in a nearby university.  Six months Secondments to consortium partners will form integral part of the contract, too.

The DCs will:

  • carry out individual research projects in different areas of Machine Learning aided 6G-networks development, spanning from PHY layer to network management, under fitted supervision and with international collaboration.
  • learn to master academic writing and author journal publications.
  • present their work at projects workshops, plenary meetings and international conferences.
  • participate in secondments to consortium partners.
  • contribute to the supervision of undergraduate students.

We are seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic, and curiosity-driven researchers to join our dynamic teams. Ideal candidates should:

  • Hold, or be close to completing, a Master’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Possess programming skills.
  • Be excellent team players, ready to engage in an enthusiastic and hardworking group of scientists and engineers on a joint project.
  • Show capacities in both written and spoken English, with excellent communication skills, to fully benefit from the network training.
  • Be capable of collaborating intensively with both industrial and academic partners through regular meetings and work visits, and enjoy working in an interdisciplinary and international environment.

Benefits

The Doctoral Candidates (DC) Fellowships are offered under very attractive employment conditions and competitive salaries in compliance with the Marie Curie Innovative Doctoral Networks. The period of employment is 3 years. All DCs will take part in a secondment to other project partner for up to 6 months of their appointment period. Candidates will be enrolled in a PhD degree program in the city of the selected position.

Eligibility criteria

Candidates must also meet the following criteria:

1) be of any nationality, but not having resided or carried out their main activity in the country of the host institution of the position they are applying to for more than 1 year in the past 3 years;

2) have not yet been awarded a PhD degree.
