Offer Description
Idipaz seeks research staff with Degree in biomedical or health sciences and Master's degree in Immunology.
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research group focused on paediatric haemato-oncology and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation as a platform for cell therapy. Specifically, the candidate will lead several projects aimed at the study of activated and memory Natural Killer cells and their potential as advanced therapies applied to paediatric oncology, directed by Dr. Antonio Pérez Martínez Head of the Haematology-Oncology Department. Paediatrics at the La Paz University Hospital-IdiPAZ.
The selected person will perform the following functions;
- Collection of peripheral blood and bone marrow mononuclear cells from paediatric oncology patients and healthy donors.
- Purification and expansion of lymphocyte populations (NK cells, T lymphocytes...).
- Phenotypic characterisation of lymphocyte cells and NK cells expanded from bone marrow and peripheral blood by flow cytometry.
- Functional studies: cytotoxicity, degranulation and IFN-γ against reference cells (K562, JURKAT, SEM...), as well as leukaemic blasts.
- Lymphocyte cell migration assays against reference cells (K562, JURKAT, SEM...), as well as leukaemic blasts.
- Performance of ELISA techniques for the analysis of serum and supernatant samples.
- Lymphocyte co-culture assays (MLR) for the search for alloreactive TCR in the context of haematopoietic progenitor transplantation.
The IdiPAZ Health Research Institute is the result of a partnership between the Hospital Universitario La Paz, the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, the Healthcare Advisory Council of the Community of Madrid and the Foundation for Biomedical Research of Hospital Universitario La Paz, which will be the managing body of the Institute. This strategic alliance has made it possible to tackle research projects through joint multidisciplinary teams belonging to these institutions, making the most of the human and material resources available to these entities for research and promoting research fundraising.
In 2021, the scientific production of IdiPAZ included more than 1,600 publications (articles, editorials, letters, reviews, etc), 43% of the publications being our own documents. Original research and review articles by IdiPAZ researchers exceeded 1,200, more than 45% in the first quartile and more than 16% were published in journals of the first decile. Researchers from our institute have shown their participation in national and international scientific networks, with more than 81% of the total number of papers published in collaboration (81.3%). As for collaborative publications, almost 56% were national collaborations and 45% were international collaborations.
Since our formal incorporation as an Institute in 2009, we have been implementing measures and actions of particular importance that have laid the foundations for a new organizational culture based on equality, diversity and non-discrimination. We are seeking a highly motivated professional with a degree in biomedical or health sciences (biology, biochemistry, biotechnology) and Master's degree in Immunology)
It will be an asset:
- Authorship of original scientific articles in indexed publications will be highly valued.
- Other merits of the candidate (awards, participation in national and international congresses, additional certified training...) will be valued.
- Certified training in animal handling.
- Basic knowledge of programming with R.
- Communication skills in both English and Spanish
- High expertise in the biology of the human immune system and its application in advanced cell therapies, especially in the field of oncology.
- More than three years of experience in clinical and translational biomedical research on immune system cells and their application in paediatric oncology, especially in haematological tumours.
- Previous experience in pre-clinical studies applied to the development of paediatric clinical trials.
- Handling of flow cytometry techniques, mastery of processing software and analysis of results.
- Experience in processing biological samples from oncology patients.
- Experience in cell culture, functional and cytotoxicity assays with lymphocytes.
- Molecular biology techniques: PCR, generation of viral particles for lymphocyte modification.
- Computer tools: GraphPad Prism, ImageJ, FlowJo and Cytobank.

Additional Information
Indefinite-term employment contract for scientific and technical activities.
- Professional category of Advanced Graduate, Group II, Area 2, according to the collective bargaining agreement.
- Full time of 37.5 hours per week.
- Gross annual salary: €27.184,28
- Private matters: 6 working days per year.
- Vacation: 22 working days per year.
- December 24 and 31 are non-business days.
The selection process will consist of two phases and the following scale will be applied, out of a maximum of 10 points:
-Training and curricular merits: 6 points.
-Personal interview: 4 points
In the event that two or more candidates match the values and needs of the institution and meet the conditions required for the post, and where there is a tie, the candidate with a certificate attesting to a minimum degree of disability equal to or greater than 33 per cent shall prevail.
