Offer Description
Department of Geoscience and Natural Resource Management (IGN), Section of Landscape Architecture and Planning invites applicants for two PhD fellowships in monitoring, modelling and mapping nature-based recreation. The project is part of the research project VIMAS (Visitor monitoring and management in protected and recreational areas: new challenges, novel solutions for the Anthropocene) which is financed by the European Union’s MARIE SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE ACTIONS, Doctoral Networks (DN), Call: HORIZON-MSCA-2022-DN-01-01.
The two PhDs will be embedded in a network across the Nordic region with 8 other PhDs of the VIMAS project. Common workshops, seminars, training schools and temporary change of study location (environmental change) will be arranged and conducted. Please note that according to the MARIE SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE ACTIONS, Doctoral Networks’s mobility rules, PhD fellows must not have resided or carried out their main activity (e.g., work, studies) in Denmark for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before their recruitment date.

We are looking for candidates within the field(s) of behavioural and environmental sciences. Applicants can have a background in Geography, Sociology, Landscape Architecture, Nature Management, or similar.
The following experiences and skills will be emphasized:
- GIS; geodata; spatial analytics
- Behaviour, planning, and management in relation to people’s recreation in nature
- Geoinformatics; Big data; social media; statistical analysis; machine learning (particularly related to PhD 1)
- Public Participation GIS (PPGIS); mixed methods; people nature relations; diverse values; social science; transformative changes (particularly related to PhD 2)

The PhDs will be affiliated with the research group of Nature, Green Spaces and Outdoor Recreation
Furthermore the PhDs can be affiliated with the research group of Geoinformatics and Geodesign
The groups are a part of the Department of Geoscience and Natural Resource Management (IGN), Faculty of SCIENCE, University of Copenhagen. We are located in Copenhagen (Denmark).

To be eligible for the regular PhD programme, you must have completed a degree programme, equivalent to a Danish master’s degree (180 ECTS/3 FTE BSc + 120 ECTS/2 FTE MSc) related to the subject area of the project, e.g. geography, sociology, landscape architecture, nature management, or similar. After deadline, a number of applicants will be selected for academic assessment by an unbiased expert assessor. You are notified whether you will be passed for assessment.
The assessor will assess the qualifications and experience of the shortlisted applicants with respect to the above mentioned research area, techniques, skills and other requirements.
