Offer Description

The School of Social Sciences and the School of Education, University of Iceland, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the ERC (consolidator grant) funded project EDUCHANGE. The project is a large-scale cross-country experimental study which aims to analyze if social inequality in educational attainment can be reduced by providing students with targeted information and guidance. The comparative study will be simultaneously implemented in four strategically selected countries (Denmark, Germany, Hungary, and Iceland).

Main tasks

The primary aim of EDUCHANGE (http://www.educhange.hi.is/) is to develop harmonized field experiments to test mechanisms that can reduce inequalities at the transition from compulsory to secondary schooling as well as at the transition from upper secondary schooling to tertiary education.

The postdoctoral researcher will develop, coordinate, and evaluate a comparative experimental study focused on the transition from upper secondary education to tertiary education. The study will be designed as a multidisciplinary hybrid intervention and include elements of information interventions as well as collective career guidance. The position requires close cooperation with all EDUCHANGE team members including researchers from the University of Potsdam, Germany; Aarhus University, Denmark; and the Centre for Economic and Regional Studies (KRTK) in Budapest, Hungary, who will implement the study in the other EDUCHANGE countries.

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to join the group in April 2024, but a later or earlier start would be possible. The appointment is for three years.
