Offer Description

A tender is hereby opened for the award of one (1) Research Grant (RG)under the Project SPRINT - SUSTAINABLE PLANT PROTECTION TRANSITION: A GLOBAL HEALTH APPROACH, Grant Agreement nr. 862568, hosted at the Department of Environment and Planning of the University of Aveiro, under the following conditions:

1. Scientific Area: Biology and Environmental Sciences; Subarea: Aquatic Ecotoxicology

2. Financing Source: European Commission, under its component of the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program (H2020-EU.3.2.1.1).

3. Admission Requirements:

1) MSc holders in the areas of Ecotoxicology, Applied Biology, Ecology or related scientific areas, enrolled* (or that fulfill the requisites to enroll) in Doctoral Program or enrolled (at University of Aveiro) in courses that does not confer an academic degree.

2) Proven experience in ecotoxicology with freshwater species.

*The proof of enrolment must be made available until the contract is awarded, and the candidate may attach a declaration of honor to confirm that they meet the requirements for enrolment in an integrated master's degree, master's or doctoral program or in a course that does not confer an academic degree.

If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms of the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th, which approves the legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of Higher Education, attributed by foreign higher education institutions, and of paragraph e) of no. 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of August 3rd, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of the hiring act.

4. Eligibility: Applicants are eligible if they comply with paragraph a) of no.1 of article 2, of the Research Fellow Statute in the wording given by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28th, and also the provisions of article 9 of the Scientific Research Grant Regulations of the University of Aveiro.

5. Work plan: Within the scope of the SPRINT project, the proposed work plan envisages the carrying out of tasks involving the following work packages (WP): 1 - (WP4-Ecotoxicological Assessment) – development and execution of mono- and multispecies tests with pesticide mixtures; 2 - (WP7-Transition Pathways and Policy Recommendations) – active participation in organizing meetings with SPRINT project stakeholders at the national level; 3 - (WP8-Dissemination and Communication) – participation in dissemination and promotional activities for the SPRINT project.

6. Applicable legislation and regulations: Research Fellow Statute, as amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of August 28th; Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro, Regulation No. 292/2020, published in Diário da República No. 61, Series II, of March 26th; Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th (Legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education institutions).

7. Workplace: The work will be carried out at the Department of Environment and Planning and at the Department of Biology, and the Center for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM), all of the University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Doctor Nelson José Cabaços Abrantes.

8. Duration of the grant: The grant duration will be 6 months, scheduled to start between December 2023 and January 2024, and may be renewed up to the maximum limit of approved funding, during the project execution period, and under no circumstances shall it exceed the limits defined in nos. 5 and 6 of article 9, of Regulation no. 292/2020, of February 28th, published in Diário da República, no. 61, Series II, of March 26th (Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro).

9. Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the grant corresponds to €1,199.64, according to the table of values of monthly maintenance allowances, set out in Appendix III of the Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro, subject to any updates that may occur and are applicable. The fellow may also be reimbursed for the amount corresponding to the Voluntary Social Security, in case of adherence to this plan.

10. Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following: Documentary Curricular Assessment, carried out according to the following criteria: Curriculum Vitae evaluation (CV; 30%); research experience relevant to the workplan (EXP; 30%); motivation letter (ML; 10%); with the option of an individual interview (INT; 30%), all valued on a scale of 0-20 points.

The selection interview will take place if the jury does not consider itself duly qualified to decide based on the Documentary Curricular Assessment and only for the 3 candidates who achieve the highest scores in the in Documentary Curricular Assessment, and will take place through videoconference via ZOOM; The call for the interview, indicating the date and time, will be sent to candidates to the email address indicated at the time of application. If the Interview takes place, the final classification (FC) of the candidates is calculated using the formula: FC = (0.3*CV) + (0.3*EXP) + (0.1*ML) + (0.3*INT).

If there is no Interview, the final classification will be the same as the classification obtained in the Documentary Curricular Assessment.

The Jury reserves the right to exclude candidates who do not achieve the minimum final classification of 14 points on a scale of 0-20, as well as that of not selecting any candidate if it considers that none has the required profile for the intended position.

11. Composition of the Selection Jury: President: Doctor Nelson José Cabaços Abrantes (Assistant Researcher); Effective members: Doctor Isabel Maria Natividade Campos (Junior Researcher) and Doctor Ana Paula Mónica Simões Ré (Junior Researcher; Substitute members: Joana Estevinho Pereira (Assistant Researcher) and Professor Fernando José Mendes Gonçalves (Full Professor), all from the University of Aveiro.

12. Deadline for applications and how to submit applications: The call is open from the 10th to the 23rd of November, and only applications submitted within the deadline will be admitted.

Applications must be formalized by sending an application letter accompanied by the following mandatory documents: Application form for research grants, available at Research fellows - sgrh - Universidade de Aveiro (ua.pt), Motivation letter, Curriculum Vitae, certificate of qualifications, declaration of honor and other supporting documents deemed relevant. They shall also indicate the e-mail address to which by such indication they accept to be notified for all purposes within this procedure.

13. Form of publication/notification of results:

The results of the evaluation are published within a maximum period of 60 working days from the date of submission of applications, through a unit ordering list posted on the University's subweb-DAO page and by notification to candidates. Candidates are informed at a prior hearing

 

The results of the evaluation shall be made public no later than 60 working days after the closing date for submission of applications, through a unit ordering list posted on the University's subweb-DAO page and by notification to candidates. Candidates are informed in a prior hearing, under the terms established in the Code of Administrative Procedure, of the probable meaning of the final decision, and may, within 10 working days of this notification, express their opinion on this decision. The final results may be appealed to the Rector, to be submitted within 10 working days from the respective notification.
