Offer Description
The Complex Systems Institute at Ghent University, Belgium (www.csi.ugent.be), is willing to support one or more applications for Doctoral Scholarships for candidates from China through the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) international PhD programme. One of the requirements is to be a Chinese national.
We are willing to support applications related to our research on complex systems, network and data science, agent-based models, statistical physics, or computational and mathematical modelling, applied to social and economic problems. We are particularly interested to expand our expertise in data science and machine learning, though data-driven research is not a restriction! Some examples of topics of interest (current PhDs in our team) include cryptocurrencies (e.g. portfolio) and blockchains (e.g. transaction networks), international trade (e.g. models of network disruption), innovation and collaboration networks (e.g. emergence of innovation via social learning), and opinion dynamics models in social networks.
There is a possibility to obtain a PhD in Economics, Applied Economics (Business Engineering), Physics, or a combination of them as an interdisciplinary PhD. The PhD studies at Ghent University lasts for 48-months.
Our research team is international and interdisciplinary. We are looking new members who enjoy working in such environment. Ghent University is among the top global universities according to several international rankings. Furthermore, Ghent is a charming medieval Flemish town, filled with canals, full of energy, history, culture, and wonderful gastronomy.
Note that this ad is for those students/researchers willing to have the Complex Systems Institute at Ghent University as host. Once we agree on mutual interests, we will support your application for CSC funding. We are not offering the funding ourselves.
We will be selecting candidates until January 1st, 2024 (or until a suitable candidate(s) is found). The PhD studies are expected to start not before October 2024.
