Offer Description

We have the power of over 40,000 students and co-workers. Students who provide hope for the future. Co-workers who contribute to Linköping University meeting the challenges of the day. Our fundamental values rest on credibility, trust and security. By having the courage to think freely and innovate, our actions together, large and small, contribute to a better world. We look forward to receiving your application!

We are now looking to appoint a postdoc in the field of Computer Science with a focus on cybersecurity, privacy, or performance aspects of distributed systems and/or related areas.

Work assignments

The position is funded by the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) and is part of a joint project between Linköping University (LiU) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. The PI at LiU is Niklas Carlsson (Senior Associate Professor) and the co-PI at NTU is Jun Zhao (Assistant Professor).

The project builds on a new collaboration between LiU and NTU, in the area of security, privacy, and scalability of distributed systems. The ideal candidate would work in an area of interest to both PIs (see PIs individual research topics) and with interest to apply a significant effort to study security-, privacy-, scalability-, and applications-related aspects of blockchain technologies and other recent/emerging related technologies.

As a postdoc within this three-year project, you are expected to conduct high-quality research and help drive the joint research project from the LiU-side. However, to strengthen the collaboration with NTU, you are also expected to go for some research visits to NTU and help spearhead some of our joint efforts.

As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.

More information on the position and research project can be obtained from the contact persons.

Qualifications

To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree.  This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.

It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.

We are seeking applicants who have a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related fields.

We seek a self-motivated candidate with demonstrated academic excellence and a genuine interest in discovering, learning, and carefully exploring new things. As the ideal candidate, we expect you to have demonstrated excellence in some research field related to the project or neighboring topics (with preference given to areas closer to the interest of the PIs).  The position is open to people that have shown excellence in one of several ways, including (but not limited to) with regards to abstracting and solving new problems (e.g., strong mathematical and algorithmic skills), working with real-world data (e.g., large-scale measurements and data analysis), or systems-oriented research (e.g., setup, instrument, and modify a system to do new/improved things). We expect that you have good communication and presentation skills in English and have published in good scientific journals and/or conferences.

The workplace

The position is formally based at the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA), where you will be part of a research project funded by the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP).

The Department of Computer and Information Science was founded in 1983 but its roots go back to the early 1970s. It is one of the largest computer science departments in northern Europe. Our research covers a broad spectrum of fields, from core to applied computer sciences. Its vast scope also benefits our undergraduate and graduate programmes, and we now teach courses in several engineering programmes at bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well as the programmes in statistics, cognitive science and innovative programming. Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is Sweden’s largest individual research program ever, a major national initiative for strategically motivated basic research, education and faculty recruitment. The program addresses research on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems acting in collaboration with humans, adapting to their environment through sensors, information and knowledge, and forming intelligent systems-of-systems. The vision of WASP is excellent research and competence in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and software for the benefit of Swedish industry.

You will be employed and work in the Security and Networks group in the ADIT division of IDA. The group is led by Niklas Carlsson (Senior Associate Professor). Here, you will be part of a positive and internationally recognized research group that provides a supportive, intellectually stimulating, and inclusive research environment. Leveraging a mix of methodologies, we publish high-quality research within a broad range of topics, including cybersecurity, privacy, internet measurements, performance optimizations of distributed systems, multimedia systems, and applied data analytics. Recent example research from the group can be found here: https://www.ida.liu.se/~nikca89/publications.html
