Salary:            £35,300 - £37,800 per annum depending on qualifications and experience

Contract:        18-months, full-time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Uauy Group at the John Innes Centre, working on cutting-edge science in the field of Crop Genetics.

About the Uauy Group:

The Uauy Group is a multidisciplinary team working on using genetics and genomics to improve both yield and quality components in wheat. The Postdoctoral Researcher post is part of a larger programme in the Uauy Laboratory on exploiting induced variation for food security funded by a European Research Council Consolidator Grant.

The role:

The successful candidate will be involved in the design, planning and execution of genome editing of multiple targets related to spike yield traits in polyploid wheat. This will also entail screening and phenotyping of edited plants. 

The successful candidate will join a wider team ranging from computational biology to field based trials. The candidate will be encouraged to innovate and develop their own research areas within the overall remit of the ERC grant. Further details about the Uauy laboratory can be found at Cristobal Uauy Lab.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to further develop core-scientific skills such as scientific writing and project management, among others.   

The ideal candidate:

You will have a PhD in Plant Genetics, Biotechnology or related discipline. You will have in-depth knowledge of CRISPR-Cas mediated genome editing, proficiency in Golden Gate cloning and plant husbandry and phenotyping of wheat plants and demonstrable experience in screening for genome edited constructs.
