Job Summary

The Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU Boulder) invites applications for two tenure track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2024. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research brings together approximation theory, high-dimensional probability and stochastic processes, numerical analysis, and optimization to develop a comprehensive theoretical foundation of machine learning and modern artificial intelligence.
This position requires a commitment to supporting the diverse student populations in our department and its associated campus educational mission, a dedication to teaching in our undergraduate and graduate programs, and developing and conducting an innovative independent research program. The department firmly believes that the effectiveness and creativity of a group is strengthened by contributions from a broad range of perspectives. As such, we particularly welcome candidates from groups that are historically underrepresented in our field and/or candidates who demonstrate leadership toward building an equitable and inclusive scholarly environment. The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

The Department sits at the crossroads of the university's two largest colleges, being rostered in the College of Arts and Sciences while teaching students in College of Engineering. For more information see https://www.colorado.edu/amath/academics. This placement between the two colleges provides opportunities for faculty to easily build fruitful collaborations across a wide range of disciplines.

This will include developing an externally funded, innovative, and impactful research program. The normal classroom teaching assignments will accord with Department policy. The specific courses and course load will be determined in consultation with the Department Chair. The successful candidate will also be expected to supervise independent graduate student research.

What You Should Know

  • As part of the University of Colorado Boulder’s deep commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, the campus has implemented a reference check program with respect to final candidates for tenured faculty appointments. The reference check program is intended to allow CU Boulder to collect and review information about a candidate's conduct at their previous institutions, specifically conduct related to sexual misconduct, harassment, and/or discrimination – before making hiring decisions. All final candidates for tenured faculty appointments are required to complete an Authorization to Release Information.
