Offer Description

Two PhD student positions are open at the “Laboratorio de Optica” at University of Murcia, Spain (http://lo.um.es) within the ACTIVA project, “Advanced Customized Technologies for Intact Vision in Ageing”, funded by EC MSCA Doctoral Network (www.kth.se/activa). ACTIVA provides international training at the interface of physics, optics and medicine to develop novel techniques facilitating intact vision with age. The PhD students should have a background in applied physics, optical engineering, vision science, electrical engineering, or a related discipline relevant for the project.

There are two separate work packages where each fellow will join: ​

- “Using infrared pulsed light as a diagnosis tool"

- “Wearable opto-electronic devices for vision correction”​

We offer research training with workshops and secondments at European universities and companies. ​The European Commission requires that the candidates must not have a doctoral degree and must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Spain for more than 12 months during the 3 years immediately prior to the recruitment date.

related topic.

- Previous work experience in experimental and instrumental optics will be useful.

- Previous experience in optical design and modeling will be an asset.

The candidate will have the opportunity to interact with other researcher in the "Laboratorio de Optica"  and the MSCA Network as well as participate in international conferences.

Eligibility criteria

- shall not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the recruitment date (unless as part of a compulsory national service or a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention).

- shall not already be in possession of a doctoral degree (*).

- can be of any nationality.

*Researchers who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but who have not yet formally been awarded the doctoral degree will not be considered eligible.

Selection process

Doctoral candidates will be selected based on scientific qualification and experience, research interest, additional knowledge/skills, and their motivation to participate in an intersectoral research-training program.
