Offer Description

The applicant (m/f/d) should represent the field of digital media processing with a focus on image analysis in research and teaching and complement the existing research fields. Possible research areas in the subject area of the professorship are:

  • Inverse Problems
  • Super-Resolution
  • Spectral Recovery
  • Restoration
  • Computational Photography
  • Compression
  • Mobile AI
  • Augmented Reality / Mixed Reality
  • Machine Learning for Photogrammetry

The professorship is organisationally assigned to the Chair of Computer Vision. Therefore, close cooperation within the chair as well as involvement in interdisciplinary research is expected. The future holder of the position should ideally have experience in at least one of the following areas of application:

  • Super-Resolution of images
  • Design of efficient deep learning models for running on constrained devices (mobile devices)
  • Image acquisition process and camera sensors

Opportunities for cooperation with the medical faculty or with the faculty for biology and experience in raising third-party funds and in interdisciplinary research cooperation are expected.

The teaching tasks include offers for the modularized courses at the University of Würzburg at the Institute for Computer Science, the Faculty of Biology and the Medical Faculty. The University of Würzburg attaches great importance to intensive supervision of students and doctoral candidates and expects a corresponding commitment from the lecturers.

The professorship is part of the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. The future post holder is expected to be strongly involved in collaborations with other members of the Center, especially in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Science, but also with other application areas of the Center.

Requirements for employment are a relevant university degree, pedagogical aptitude and the special aptitude for academic work, which is usually demonstrated by the outstanding qualification of a doctorate in the field of digital media processing (cf. Art. 63 Para. 1 Sentence 1 BayHIG).

Specific Requirements

Applicants should be at an early stage on the path to a professorship and have changed universities after obtaining their doctorate.

No more than four years should have passed between the doctorate and the end of the call period. The date of the doctoral certificate is decisive (cf. Art. 63 Para. 1 Sentences 5 to 7 BayHIG).
