Offer Description
IIC SAS research institute is seeking experienced theoretical chemists to fill the R3 researcher positions in inorganic and computational chemistry focusing on modeling inorganic layered structures.
The main tasks will be:
- Perform high-quality research in modeling inorganic layered structures (ILS), in their interactions with the various organic species, and in examination of their properties and behavior.
- Publish the theoretically predicted results of the ILS models in high-impact journals.
- Present the obtained results at international conferences.
- Provide guidance to PhD-, Master- and visiting students when required.
- Actively participate in research projects of the Institute.
The fellow is defined as:
- R3 = independent / established researcher (approx 2 580 € netto monthly salary / 3567 € brutto monthly salary),
The fellowship includes the additional budget for research expenses (1300 € per month) and team personnel expenses (max 2000 € per month for R3 researcher).
The project's duration is 12-24 months and must end at the latest on 30/06/2026.

- Experience in modeling of periodic structures (preparation of the model for calculations, analysis of obtained results).
- Development of new methodologies and models for a deeper understanding of processes/mechanisms on the atomic level.
- Comparison of theoretical results with experimental data obtained, e.g., by SEM, XRD, FTIR, Raman, TG/DTA, UV/Vis, Brillouin spectroscopy, etc.
- Ability to discuss obtained results with experimentalists to elucidate the properties of new advanced materials.
- Ability to design computational models based on the real crystallographic structures.
- Experiences with the refinement of crystallographic structures.
- Work in Unix/Linux environment.
- Ability to design and conduct calculations on proposed models individually.
- Experiences with program packages VASP, Gaussian and MedeA.
The applicants are expected to submit before September 12 (including), 2023 a short description of project objectives (1 page A4, identify the research topic), a professional CV including a list of publications (together with citations), and documents of finished PhD. Applications should be sent via email to stanislav.komorovsky@savba.sk. Please use the subject “R2/R3 call - Name Surname” to identify the application. Only complete submissions are considered.
