Offer Description

A postdoctoral Research Grant is open for the Associate Laboratory - Institute for Nanostructures, Nanomodelling and Nanofabrication (ref. LA/P/0037/2020)/FCT NOVA and financed by national and, when eligible, co-financed by Community funds.

Scientific field: Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and related areas.

Recipients profile/category:

Mandatory requirements: Candidates must hold a PhD degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related areas, within the three years previous to the date of application. Demonstrate knowledge on fusion-based welding processes, especially those based on arc welding is fundamental, alongside with proven experience on thermodynamic materials modelling. Priority will be given to candidates with research experience in the specific scientific area of the work plan. Candidates who have obtained the degree abroad must have the degree recognised in Portugal, under the terms of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th. The documents proving this situation should be presented,at the latest, until the contractualisation phase of the grant, and may be replaced by adeclaration of honour. 

Workplan: The work plan to be developed consists of the following tasks:

  • Task 1 – Development of methodologies for analysis of defects generated during fusion-based additive manufacturing and welding processes.
  • Task 2 – Microstructure and mechanical characterization of components fabricated by fusion-based additive manufacturing and welding processes;
  • Task 3 – Development of documentation correlating features associated to fusion-based welding processes and fusion-based additive manufacturing and welding processes;
  • Task 4 – Development of technical reports within the scope of the activities developed during the project;

Workplace: The work will be carried out at the Materials Research Centre (CENIMAT/I3N), at Department of Materials Science of Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the New University of Lisbon, under the scientific supervision of João Pedro de Sousa Oliveira.

Duration of the fellowship(s): The fellowship will last for 6 months, starting in June 2023, with possible renewals up until December 2025.

Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to € 1741.00, according to the stock chart of the exchanges awarded directly by FCT, I.P. https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_2023.pdf, payment being made monthly by bank transfer.

Selection methods: The selection of candidates will be made by the jury, based on the analysis of the Curriculum Vitae and its suitability for the proposed tasks. The evaluation of the candidate will take into account the candidate's merit, considering the parameters of the academic training (40%), the curricular evaluation valuing the experience defined in the work plan (50%) and the interview (10%). If the jury chooses not to interview the candidates, the curricular evaluation will correspond to 60% of the candidates' evaluation.

Notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for submission of applications, by e-mail, of the results proposed by the jury, having access to the minutes. After notification, applicants will have 10 working days to decide on the decision, at a prior hearing of interested parties, in accordance with the Code of Administrative Procedure. The final decision shall be taken after the previous hearing period, again notified to all applicants by e-mail.

Application deadline and form of submission of applications:  The competition is open from July 10th to July 21st, 2023.

  3. Certificate of qualifications or proof of completion, you must deliver the diplomas until contracting.

    1. proof of enrolment in an academic course consistent with the details in point 2 of the Notice.
    2. declaration on honour regarding the achievement of other necessary requirements, for example, obtaining the recognition of an academic degree awarded by a foreign Higher Education institution (please find a template of this document in the last pages of this document, if applicable
