The project aims at the structural study of different type IV pilus and their interactions with bacteriophages. For the development of the project, the candidate must have experience with: Biochemistry of macromolecules, cloning and expression of proteins, preparation and purification of bacteriophages, purification by ultracentrifugation by density gradient, preparation of samples for data collection by cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), cryo-EM image data processing and three-dimensional structure reconstruction.

The postdoc will work at the University of São Paulo's Biomedical Sciences Institute (ICB-USP) in Brazil in collaboration with CEPID B3, the Biology of Bacteria and Bacteriophages Research Center. CEPID B3 is one of the Research, Innovation and Dissemination Centers (CEPIDs in the Portuguese acronym) supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in São Paulo state. It is hosted by USP's Chemistry Institute (IQ).

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 9,047.40 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
