Call for one Senior Technician for Research Activities at IPO Porto

The Administration Board of the Instituto Português de Oncologia do Porto Francisco Gentil, EPE (IPO Porto) opens a call for hiring one senior technician for research activities with a Master degree, according to the Applicable Regulation, under an unfixed-term contract for up to 6 months, funded through Project ONCOSCREEN from HORIZON-MISS-2021-CANCER-02 financed by European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HADEA). The position will be integrated in Experimental Pathology and Therapeutics Group and in Precancerous Lesions and Early Cancer Management Groupfrom Research Center of IPO Porto (CI-IPOP, hosted at IPO Porto).

1. Profile of the candidate:  

Any national, foreign, and stateless candidate(s) that hold the following requirements can apply:

Obligatory:

• MSc holders for 8 or more years in Biochemistry, Health Sciences and related areas, with final classification of at least 17/20.;
• Expertise in Bioinformatics, Proteomics and Biomarker discovery and validation;
•  Laboratory experience in several molecular biology methods, including immunohistochemistry (IHC) methods, nucleic acid extraction, protein isolation & immunoassays, RT-qPCR, and others, especially in the cancer samples context;
• Experience in developing translational research in the context of an oncology center and close interaction with clinical environment;
• Experience in Lab Management and pre-clinical studies;
• Excellent knowledge of Biostatistics, especially survival analysis;
• Good publication record, with at least one original article published as first author in high profile, peer reviewed international scienfic journals;
• English proficiency (oral and written);
• Motivation to work in an interactive and collaborative environment;
• Organized, able to prioritize and accomplish deadlines;
• Driven to fulfil goals and reach objectives.

Preferencial:

• Former experience in human samples handling (plasma, urine, stool & tissue), protein and RNA extraction from stool, cell culture procedures and microscopy techniques is a plus.

Note: In the event the MSc degree was awarded by a foreigner higher education institution, the degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law nr 66/2018, of 18^th August, and all formalities established there must be fulfilled by applications deadline.

1. Members of the Jury:

The jury is composed by: Prof. Mário Dinis Ribeiro (who chairs); Dr. Luís Lima, PhD; Prof. Lúcio Lara Santos, PhD. Substitute elements: Dr. José Alexandre Ferreira, PhD and Prof. Carlos Palmeira.

1. Start Date and workplace:

The contract is expected to start on July 1^st 2023 and will last for (6) six months. The activities will be developed mainly at IPO-Porto.

1. Monthly remuneration: 

Gross monthly remuneration is 1.333,35€.

1. Application process:

1. Evaluation criteria:

The admitted applications will be evaluated considering the candidates' academic or professional qualifications, professional career, relevance of the experience and training and the type of duties carried out in accordance with the profile described above.

The jury will analyze the application documents according to following criteria:

A. Curriculum evaluation (70%):

1. Research experience in the areas and methods indicated above (50%).

2. Research projects in which the candidate was involved (10%);

3. Scientific publications (published or submitted) and respective impact factor (10%);

B. Motivation letter (30%):

1. Interest and motivation in the research areas relevant to the position (25%);

2. Fluency in English and experience in scientific writing (5%).

After evaluation of all admitted applications, the jury will write a meeting minute with all process of recruitment, evaluation, and selection, including an ordered list of approved candidates and the final decision of the jury. The final decision of the jury shall be validated by the Head of the Institution, who is also in charge of deciding about the hiring.

1. Results:

Both admitted and excluded candidates list and final classification list shall be posted at IPO Porto and all candidates will be notified by email.

1. Preliminary hearing and final decision deadline:

Pursuant to article 121 of the Administrative Procedure Code, after notified, all candidates have 10 working days to respond. Panel’s final decisions are pronounced within a period of 90 days, from application deadline.
