Offer Description
This contract is funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under the MSCA DN project GECKO (GA No 101073106). The main objective of the GECKO project is to bridge the existing gap between the CAD and the computational models (CAE) and integrate them within the industrial workflow. This will imply collaborating with industries in enhancing the adoption of the technology within commercial solvers and adapting existing open source frameworks so that they can hook into the industrial practice and thus remain relevant in the foreseeable future.
In the practice, this implies ensuring that open-source solvers, developed in the academia for both solid and fluid dynamics, are able to use as an input domain any CAD geometry, even in cases in which the geometrical definition is not optimal, i.e., poorly defined or “dirty” geometries with no additional operations nor user intervention.
This vacancy is meant to cover position DC6 of the project, whose main expected results are reported in the following. The doctoral candidate will be primarily tutored by Prof. Alessandro Reali and Prof. Giancarlo Sangalli (University of Pavia) and Prof. Carlotta Giannelli (University of Florence). Candidate will be enrolled in the PhD program in “Computational Mathematics and Decision Sciences” (DC6) at the University of Pavia and is expected to spend significant secondments at the University of Florence as well as shorter secondments at other partner institutions in the project like IDIADA, BETA-CAE, DYNAMORE, CIMNE.
DC6: Mathematical tools for immersed IGA
Main expected results:
● Study and development of accurate and efficient integration tools
● Study and development of efficient multipatch coupling strategies
● Study and development of suitable time-integration methods for implicit/explicit dynamics
