European Research Funding Programmes
Horizon Europe is the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation. It tackles climate change, helps to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and boosts the EU’s competitiveness and growth.
The programme facilitates collaboration and strengthens the impact of research and innovation in developing, supporting and implementing EU policies while tackling global challenges. It supports the creation and better diffusion of excellent knowledge and technologies. It creates jobs, fully engages the EU’s talent pool, boosts economic growth, promotes industrial competitiveness and optimises investment impact within a strengthened European Research Area.
The ERC, set up by the European Union in 2007, is the premier European funding organisation for excellent frontier research. It funds creative researchers of any nationality and age, to run projects based across Europe.
The ERC offers 4 core grant schemes: Starting Grants, Consolidator Grants, Advanced Grants and Synergy Grants. With its additional Proof of Concept Grant scheme, the ERC helps grantees to explore the innovation potential of their ideas or research results.
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) support exceptional research and innovation, providing funding opportunities for researchers at all career stages. Through cross-border mobility, interdisciplinary training, and cross-sector collaboration, MSCA help build Europe's research capacity and fosters long-term career growth for high-skilled researchers.
In addition, the MSCA fund the creation of high-quality doctoral and postdoctoral training programmes, while financially supporting collaborative research projects worldwide. This contributes to shaping the future of higher education institutions, research centres, and non-academic organisations.
Committed to excellence in research and education, MSCA aligns with the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for Researcher Recruitment, setting benchmarks for high-quality training and career development.
