Main Mission
Participate in the scientific design, coordination, and implementation of Work Package 3 – Itineraries and Scenarios and Work Package 5 – Preliminary User Studies of the Horizon Europe project PlaceMUS XR, which aims to connect music, heritage, and immersive technologies.
The research engineer will contribute to the methodological framework, scientific validation, and dissemination of studies on cultural itineraries and sound museography experiences, in collaboration with European consortium partners.
Activities
- Contribute to the methodological design of case studies and scenarios (WP3);
- Coordinate the collection and analysis of heritage resources (archives, databases, iconography, sound recordings);
- Define and oversee metadata structuring and corpus standardization;
- Propose appropriate approaches to research topics;
- Participate in the design of cultural itineraries and museographic scenarios;
- Collaborate with technical teams (VR, XR, UX design) for the integration of musical content;
- Contribute to user studies and the interpretation of results (WP5);
- Write scientific reports and contributions for the dissemination of results (publications, deliverables, conferences);
- Conduct scientific and methodological monitoring;
- Organize scientific events.

Required Skills and Qualities
Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of musicology, intangible cultural heritage, and museography;
- Good understanding of digital humanities and heritage enhancement practices;
- Advanced knowledge of data modeling, management, and publication in the humanities;
- Advanced knowledge of data production methods and tools;
- Broad general culture in European music history and cultural mediation;
- Excellent written and spoken English (C1/C2 level).
Technical skills:
- Ability to conduct interdisciplinary and collaborative research;
- Experience developing data collection tools (questionnaires, interviews, case studies, field observations);
- Mastery of documentary analysis, indexing, and corpus structuring methods;
- Ability to draft technical specifications;
- Excellent writing skills in English;
- Experience in team coordination and European project management.
Interpersonal skills:
- Autonomy and organizational ability;

- Ability to work in a team and communicate with diverse profiles (researchers, engineers, mediators, designers);

Work Environment and Context
Position within the structure:
This position is part of the Horizon Europe PlaceMUS XR project, involving universities, research centers, and cultural institutions across Europe.

The research engineer will be based at the University of Tours, working with RicercarLab (the musicology research program at CESR, https://ricercarlab.cesr.univ-tours.fr/) and consortium partners, particularly on the “Itineraries and Scenarios” (WP3) and “User Experience Design” (WP5) components.
Occasional travel within France and Europe is expected for project meetings and workshops.
