Offer Description
Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is one of the largest universities in Germany. Three academic staff member
The research center "Pro.Social – Discourses of Crisis and Ways of Dealing with Social Inequality. Analyses of Social Transformations in 'Education and Social Affairs'" to promote cooperative PhD thesis in Rhineland-Palatinate, a collaborative project between Mainz University and the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (press release), is seeking to fill three doctoral positions at the Mainz location as soon as possible.
The group in Mainz and Ludwigshafen will conduct reflexive-analytical research into analyses of social transformations in the interplay of organizations, professions, interactions, and actors (details about the group). The group offers reliable and ongoing support for PhD students, enables tailored training measures, and integration into the scientific community (including participation in workshops, conferences).
Your tasks:
- Independent empirical doctorate within the research center, preferably on the topic of parental involvement or collaboration between parents and educational institutions in the field of school or early childhood education and care, also in light of the increasing prevalence of digital technologies
- Contribution and continuous participation in the research center's offerings at both participating institutions
- Regular presentation of interim results of the research center's doctoral research at the research group and at relevant events (conferences, workshops)
- Contribution to publications
- Contribution to the development of the cross-site network
- Involvement in university teaching (BA in Educational Science)

In addition to the general requirements according to public services law, applicants must meet the recruitment requirements stipulated in § 57 of the Hochschulgesetz of Rhineland-Palatinate.
- A successfully completed above-average scientific university degree in the field of educational or social sciences, preferably in educational science, education, or sociology
- Very good knowledge of social theory and qualitative empirical research approaches
- Strong interest in pursuing an empirical doctorate in the above-mentioned field of parental involvement or cooperation between parents and educational institutions
- Very good knowledge of German
- Very good skills in structured academic work as well as a high degree of organizational skills and independence
- Interest and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary and cross-locational manner
- Strong social skills, particularly in teamwork and communication skills
