Researchers from Latin America and the Caribbean can apply for the Ernst Mach Grant worldwide, which is targeted at young researchers from all disciplines and countries (except Austria) who wish to pursue a research project in Austria.
The Ernst Mach Grant programme is named after the famous Austrian physicist and philosopher Ernst Mach (1838-1916). The grant programme is financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF).
Who can apply
Researchers and students working in the following areas of knowledge:
- Natural Sciences
- Technical Sciences
- Human Medicine, Health Sciences
- Agricultural Sciences
- Social Sciences
- Humanities
- Arts
Researchers and students of up to 35 years old:
- Postgraduates
- PhD students
- PhD holders, post docs
All Austrian universities are eligible to host Ernst Mach grant awardees for a research stay.
What is offered
- Monthly grant rate: EUR 1 250;
- Assistance in arranging accommodation and health insurance
- Grant holders do not have to pay tuition fees in Austria. Tuition fees may be waived upon request to the Rectorate of the public university or university college for teacher education for the semesters in which studies or research can be shown to have been completed elsewhere, i.e. as part of transnational EU, state or university mobility programmes.
- Scholarship holders with citizenship and travel from non-European developing countries will also receive a travel costs subsidy of max. EUR 1 000 upon submission of original travel invoices.
