EURAXESS India Quarterly Newsletter Issue 1 2024
The First Quarterly EURAXESS India Newsletter of the year is out now with the following exciting topics:
Country in Focus: United Kingdom
There are over 160 universities in the UK, two of which are in the top three of the 2024 worldwide university rankings, with four in the top ten. Some 17 are in the top 100 universities. The UK is the second most popular destination for international students; 45.4% of all postgraduates came from abroad, according to Migration Observatory Oxford. There are several universities in London and Edinburgh, two of the world’s top 100 cities.
HOT TOPIC: Research implications on Europe’s Economic Security Package update
With increased uncertainty surrounding global trade and foreign investment, and calls for more clarity from industry and research sectors on terms like “strategic autonomy” and “dual use”, a key update to the European Economic Security Package has been proposed just six months after the original document was agreed by the European Parliament and Council.

EURAXESS SCIENCE Slam India 2023
The popular EURAXESS Science Slam competition took place this year on 2 December, 3pm-9pm, at the Goethe-Institut/ Max Mueller Bhavan in Kolkata.
5 exceptionally talented young Indian researchers performed live in front of an enthusiastic audience. After a great evening of fun and excitement the audience and jury selected the winner:

It creates jobs, fully engages the EU’s talent pool, boosts economic growth, promotes industrial competitiveness and optimises investment impact within a strengthened European Research Area.
Legal entities from the EU and associated countries can participate.
ERC
European Research Council: Excellence Opened to the WorldThe European Research Council (ERC) is a flagship component of Horizon 2020’s Excellent Science. ERC is a top funding body providing funding for excellent researchers of any nationality, to carry out frontier research in Europe, via annual calls. The ERC's mission is to encourage the highest quality research in Europe through competitive funding and to support investigator-driven frontier research across all fields, on the basis of scientific excellence.
MSCA
Marie Sklodowska Curie ActionsThe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) under Horizon 2020’s Excellent Science pillar provide grants for all stages of researchers' careers and encourage transnational, intersectoral and interdisciplinary mobility. The MSCA enable research-focused organisations (universities, research centres, and companies) to host talented foreign researchers and to create strategic partnerships with leading institutions worldwide. The MSCA are open to all domains of research and innovation.
ERASMUS
Erasmus+Erasmus+ has opportunities for a wide range of organisations, including universities, education and training providers, think-tanks, research organisations, and private businesses.
Canada and the USA are partner countries in Erasmus+. North American institutions can join partnerships, individual North American students can apply for Joint Master Degrees. North American researchers can also individually apply for Jean Monnet Actions that foster study of European integration.
