About
Horizon 2020 – Work Programme 2018-2020
Cooperation opportunities for Japanese researchers
Horizon 2020 is the EU's Framework Programme for Research and Innovation which runs from 2014 to 2020, with a budget of nearly EUR 80 billion (roughly JPY 10 trillion). It is fully open to international cooperation and is the EU's biggest research and innovation programme ever. It leads to more breakthroughs, discoveries, and development of products and services by taking great ideas from the lab to the market. Europe, like Japan and much of the world, faces major challenges such as ageing populations and the depletion of natural resources. Horizon 2020 is designed to address these societal challenges through funding excellent science, technology and innovation.
Horizon 2020 is built around 3 pillars: Excellent Science, Industrial Leadership and Societal Challenges. Timewise, it is divided into 3 Work Programmes. The last one, covering three years, will start in January 2018 and its content will be announced at the end of October 2017.
Researchers and managers are invited to attend this event to learn directly from representatives of the European Commission about opportunities for research collaboration in various thematic fields, as well as about individual fellowships, under Horizon 2020 in its final phase (2018-2020). The seminar will also feature a number of testimonies by Japanese and European participants in Horizon 2020 projects about the merits of collaboration under the programme, and will provide information about support services for those who wish to join Horizon 2020 research activities.
