Research and innovation projects through mobility - MSCA Rise call

msca_rise2

**Deadline extended to 12 May 2020**

MSCA Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE)funds short-term exchanges of personnel between academic, industrial and commercial organisations throughout the world. It aims at promoting international and inter-sectoral collaboration through research and innovation staff exchanges. It helps people develop their knowledge, skills and careers, while building links between organisations working in different sectors of the economy, including universities, research institutes and SMEs.

Partners organisations get together and propose a joint project. Proposals should highlight networking opportunities, sharing of knowledge and the skills development of staff members.

The grant supports the secondment of staff members forone month to one year (short-term). They must be engaged in or linked to research and innovation activities at their home organisation for a certain time prior to the secondment.

They return to their home organisation after the secondment, to pass on their knowledge.

Who can apply?

Proposals must include at least three partners, which can be academic or non-academic organisations from three different countries. At least two of these should be from the EU or associated countries. Partners from further afield can also join.

Organisations from any LAC countries can participate in MSCA RISE projects.

About Brazilian and Mexican institutions

Note that Brazilian institutions can join a consortium as partner, but cannot receive direct funding from the European Commission for the secondment of their researchers or for other research, training and networking activities. Participation of Brazilian Institutions is threfore open, but co-financing from the Brazilian side is needed. A possibility for such co-financing is through the Brazilian States Funding Agencies (FAPs), as some of them have published parallel calls to support such participation, but also CNPq or FINEP thanks to the Administrative Arrangement they signed with the European Commission.

For more info see: "Guidelines for the preparation of research proposals in collaboration with proposals sumbitted to EU Horizon 2020" here.

CONFAP launched a call to support Brazilian participation in MSCA Rise 2020. More at http://bit.ly/CONFAP_RISE2020/

Same for organisations from the Bahamas, Barbados, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago that are not eligible for direct funding. It is suggested that Mexican organisations check their local co-funding schemes to support their participation here.

Programme's scope:

MSCA-RISE involves organisations from the academic and non-academic sectors (in particular SMEs), based in Europe (EU Member States and Horizon 2020 Associated Countries) and outside Europe (third countries).

Support is provided for the development of partnerships in the form of a joint research and innovation project. This is aimed at knowledge sharing via international as well as intersectoral mobility, based on secondments of research and innovation staff (exchanges) with an in-built return mechanism. The organisations constituting the partnership contribute directly to the implementation of a joint research and innovation project by seconding and/or hosting eligible staff members. Secondments shall always take place between legal entities independent from each other.

MSCA-RISE proposals can focus either on one dimension of mobility (intersectoral / international), or include a combination of both.

Exchanges can be for both early-stage and experienced researchers and can also include administrative, managerial and technical staff directly involved in the research and innovation activities of the proposal.

Exchanges with institutions from and to third countries can be intersectoral as well as within the same sector.

Secondments between institutions established in third countries or within the same EU Member State or Horizon 2020 Associated Country will not be supported.

Deadline: 28 April 2020 12 May 2020
