The REDI (RMIT European Doctoral Innovators) program is a unique opportunity offering excellent PhD positions including enviable international experience, top-class research discipline and transversal skills training as well as networking with academic and industry leaders from 60+ supporting partners.

REDI´s early-stage researchers from around the globe will be working with leading European research and academic institutions across 10+ countries and spend up to one residential year at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia (ranked in the top 20 universities under 50 years old in the world). REDI researchers will be part of a rich multidisciplinary and multicultural research community and work closely with leading industry partners, their projects and careers benefiting from comprehensive technical training, international experience and mentoring.

Eligibility criteria

To apply for REDI, you must comply with all the following MSCA-COFUND eligibility criteria by the application deadline:

  • Be in the first four years (Full-Time Equivalent (FET) research experience of your research career and not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree. FTE Research Experience is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree entitling him/her to embark on a doctorate,

  • Not have resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of your research host for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before this call's deadline. Time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention (1951 Refugee Convention and 1967 Protocol), compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays is not taken into account

  • Not be already permanently employed by the chosen Research Host at the time of call deadline. Applicants (if successful) must be able to dedicate full time to the program's research training activities unless duly justified for personal or family reasons. This also means that a researcher cannot benefit from two Marie Skłodowska-Curie (or "Marie Curie" under FP7) Actions grants at the same time.

AND the following criteria:

  • Hold a master’s or equivalent degree (for example a bachelor's degree requiring at least 4 years of full-time study in a relevant discipline awarded with honours and including a research component; or a master’s degree including a research component or with a high distinction average) that allows the candidate to enrol in a university doctoral program by January 2023.

  • Have English level C1 language proficiency.

Selection process

The REDI selection process consists of 6 main steps:

Step 1: Online application through the online application portal open from 20/07/2022 until 19/09/2022.

Step 2: Eligibility check will be performed by the REDI Management Team in order to make sure only applications complying with the MSCA eligibility requirements are admitted to the next stage of the selection process. The eligibility checks are performed on a rolling basis as application are made and assessments are scheduled to complete by 28/09/2022 . Applications found to be ineligible will be rejected at this stage.

Step 3: Assessment of eligible applications and shortlisting for interviews - each eligible application will be reviewed and assessed by an independent Selection Panel. The assessment of eligible applications are to be completed by 12 October 2022

Step 4: Interviews with shortlisted applicants. The interviews are scheduled to take place between 24 and 28 October 2022.

Step 5: Final decisions and allocation of positions. Based on the results of both assessment of applications and interviews, a final list of successful applicants will be produced by each selection panel (including a list of reserves for each position). The final list of successful applicants (including reserves) is expected to be available in early November.

Step 6: Admission at Host and RMIT University. Successful applicants will be invited to initiate the admission process at their chosen host institution and RMIT University. This process is foreseen to take about 1-2 months (in some cases it may take longer depending on the position, institution/country/visa processes, travel restrictions due to COVID-19 or other factors).
