Description
Research project description
The University of Pisa (UNIPI, Italy) is seeking highly motivated and talented postdoctoral fellows to join the research team of Professor Angelino Carta in the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA-PF-2024).
Research in Angelino Carta’s team focuses on questions of plant diversity and trait evolution to find out how plants adapt and reproduce. Some of our projects address these questions at global scale in vascular plants as a whole, while others focus on specific clades or restricted geographic areas.
We use a combination of field work, experimental approach and synthesis of data from the literature and databases to quantify plant responses to various environmental drivers including past, current and future climate, providing a sound background to support conservation initiatives.
We use comparative methods to analyse data on species richness, community (phylogenetic) assembly and plant regeneration by seeds to understand processes driving plant diversity and evolutionary patterns in reproductive biology.
We collaborate with plant scientists from all around the world, with wide-ranging interests. As a Postdoctoral fellow you’re expected to get involved with many things: weekly team meeting, help team members (field/lab work, elaborating new questions and answers), teaching, attending seminars and conferences.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must have a PhD degree at the time of the deadline for applications (11th September 2024). Applicants who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but who have not yet formally been awarded the doctoral degree will also be considered eligible to apply.
At the call deadline, the applicant must have a maximum of 8 years experience in research, from the date of the award of their PhD degree. Years of experience outside research and career breaks will not count towards the above maximum, nor will years of experience in research in third countries, for nationals or long-term residents of EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries who wish to reintegrate to Europe.
Mobility Rule: The applicant may be of any nationality but must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Italy (for European Fellowships) or the host organisation for the outgoing phase (in case of Global Fellowship) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before 11th September 2024.
Application procedure
Expressions of interest must be sent by email to angelino.carta@unipi.it no later than 31/05/2024 and must consist of two pdf files:
- Complete and updated CV, clearly demonstrating all 3 eligibility requirements.
- Motivation letter, maximum one page.
