Description

The Thermal Engineering and Energy Systems research group (GITSE ) of Aragón Institute for Engineering Research  welcomes postdoctoral candidates interested in applying for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF) in 2024 at the  University of Zaragoza.

Brief description of the institution:

The Aragón Institute for Engineering Research ( I3A)  is a University Research Institute established by the University of Zaragoza more than 20 years ago. Its strengths include its capacity to bring together research from different engineering related areas and its highly qualified research staff able to interleave high standards in knowledge generation with transfer to the industry and society. Since it was first established, the I3A has grown both nationally and internationally, consolidated a shared vision among scientists and technical experts, and gained recognition as reference in a larger variety fields of engineering research. Its four strategic divisions, Biomedical Engineering, Information and Communication Technologies, Processes and Recycling, and Industrial Technologies, work for a common objective which is to generate and transfer knowledge to the social and business environment.

9 cutting edge laboratories were recently launched to reinforce, bring together and make visible the lines of work of its 34 research groups in areas considered key: Circular Economy Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, virtual & artificial reality, personalized medicine, home appliance technology, photonics and smart cities.

The I3A holds 4 ERC grants in biomedical engineering and ICT , 3 MSCA DN have been recently granted in the call 2022 and 2 MSCA PF in the last call.

The University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR) is a public university and the major research and higher education institution in the Spanish region of Aragón. UNIZAR has been involved in more than 340 EU projects between 2014 and 2023, participates in 18 ITN, 10 IF, 12 RISE, 2 COFUND, 3 EU Researchers' Night, 1 MSCA and Citizens, 6 MSCA - DN and 10 MSCA- PF of Horizon Europe

Brief description of the Research Group

The GITSE (Thermal Engineering and Energy Systems research group, https://i3a.unizar.es/en/grupos-de-investigacion/gitse ), acknowledged by the Government of Aragón as Reference Research Group from 2008 and composed by 14 researches is looking for candidates to host European or Global Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship projects in the field of sustainability for energy conversion technologies. The main objective of the research activity of the GITSE group is to promote progress increasing the knowledge on conversion technologies, energy saving and efficient use of energy, through the design, development and implementation of projects, new equipment and innovative systems to provide energy services with sustainability criteria to the industrial, commercial and residential sectors. In this context, the research lines of the GITSE Group are:

            - Thermal energy storage

            - Air conditioning and energy efficiency in buildings

            - Solar energy

            - Modeling, Simulation and Design of Thermal Equipment

            - Modeling, simulation and Design of Energy Systems.

            - Thermoeconomics, eco-efficiency, sustainability and energy optimization.

Brief description of the project

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a very powerful and valuable methodology for environmental impact and sustainability evaluation. We are working on the integration of environmental indicators as key factors to guide decision-making processes throughout the design and operation phases of polygeneration systems. The candidate would be invited to participate in the energy optimization and sustainability research line but also to contribute new approaches that can enrich and enhance our research environment.
