Description
University of Girona (UdG) is located in Girona city and is part of the Catalan public university system since 1992. UdG, deeply rooted in Catalonia and the Catalan culture, is one of the primary economic and cultural motors of the region. At the same time, it pursues a vocation of universality and openness to all traditions and cultures.
UdG is a public institution devoted to excellence in teaching and research and to participating in the progress and development of society through the creation, transmission, dissemination and criticism of knowledge related to the sciences, technology, the humanities, the social sciences and the arts.
During the last 10 years, UdG has participated into more than 220 European Projects, including 7 ERC projects.
Research Group
The Analytical and Environmental Chemistry Group (QAA) is one of the research groups linked to the Department of Chemistry of the UdG and belongs to the consolidated research group of the Generalitat de Catalunya “2021 SGR 01133-Multidisciplinary research group in Environment and Health (ENVIR-ONE-HEALTH)”. It is composed of seven permanent researchers, one post-doc and six PhD students.
The QAA group is a dynamic team engaged in various research lines mainly focused on the development and application of advanced and sustainable analytical methods in many fields and the use of nature-based systems for wastewater treatment. QAA members have a wide experience in project participation and management at national and European level. At present they are involved in 3 national research projects, 1 project in the EU LIFE programme and 1 COST Innovators Grant.
The training capacity of the research team is supported by a broad and sustained trajectory in the direction of doctoral thesis and in the supervision of PhD and post-doctoral international researchers. This fact demonstrates the international visibility and networking contacts of the research group.
Main research lines of interest
In recent years, the conceptual advancement on green analytical chemistry (GAC) has moved in parallel with efforts to incorporate new screening or quantitative low-cost analytical tools. In this sense, the role of solid-state techniques such as X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), that allow the non-invasive analysis (or with a minimum sample treatment) of solid samples, cannot be neglected.
The main research line of interest of the supervisor of this proposal is focused on the development of cutting-edge analytical methods for the analysis of solid and liquid samples by using different XRF systems (EDXRF, micro-XRF, TXRF, P-XRF). She has a wide and accredited experience (ORCID: 0000-0003-4630-1530) in using this type of techniques for solving analytical problems in many different fields: environmental, biomedical, food and nutrition, cultural heritage, material sciences among others.
