Description

MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships are individual research grants that enhance the creative and innovative potential of researchers holding a PhD and who wish to acquire new skills through advanced training, international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral mobility. MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships will be open to excellent researchers of any nationality.

The Networks Research Laboratory (NETLAB) of Frederick University (FredU) invites motivated postdoctoral researchers to jointly prepare an application for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships call (HORIZON-MSCA-2023-PF-01-01) with FredU as host organization.

Description of Hosting Research Team

The Networks Research Laboratory (NETLAB) conducts significant research in the prominent areas of Wired, Mobile/Wireless Computer Networks and Communication Systems that includes 5G/6G networks, Internet of Things (IoT), Intrusion detection systems, Cloud/Fog/Edge computing, Computational intelligence, and Multi-objective optimization. NETLAB performs research in network architectures, communication protocols, intelligent algorithms and mechanisms that support the provision of Quality of Service/Experience and security. The NETLAB’s research is supported by the utilization of CISCO equipment and software tools for the development of appropriate simulation models and pilot systems and applications. In addition, NETLAB utilizes prototyping and proof-of-concept implementations.

The NETLAB research interests include:

  • Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS)-aided cell-free 6G networks
  • Device-to-Device (D2D) and cooperative multi-hop D2D communication in 5G-and-beyond networks for energy and spectrum efficiency, with energy harvesting capabilities for public safety networks
  • Multi-objective optimization of radio resource allocation and beamforming for Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) in software defined networking (SDN) based virtualized fog computing radio access networks in 5G-and-beyond wireless environments
  • Blockchain technology in communication networks
  • Secure mobility management in maritime IoT applications
  • Privacy-perseverance and security framework for the Healthcare IoT systems
  • Machine learning intrusion detection and recovery techniques in IoT
  • Intelligent code-offloading on edge computing-based IoT
  • Mobility support in wireless sensor networks and intelligent, QoS-aware mechanisms in vehicular ad hoc networks
  • Computational and network communication resource constraints handling in IoT
  • Multimedia content delivery on bandwidth-limited networks

Expertise Sought

We are looking for a candidate with expertise in analytical modeling, design and performance analysis (like energy efficiency, reliability, resource allocation) in the field of computer networks and/or communication systems, including but not limited to the following topics:

  • 5G-and-beyond networks / 6G networks
  • Smart Systems and Internet of Things (IoT) (industrial, maritime, transportation, healthcare)
  • Security fault detection and analysis
  • Blockchain technology in communication networks

Your profile

  1. A PhD degree at the time of the deadline for applications. Applicants who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but who have not yet formally been awarded the doctoral degree will also be considered eligible to apply.
  2. A maximum of eight years’ experience in research, from the date of the award of their PhD degree. Years of experience outside research and career breaks will not count towards the above maximum, nor will years of experience in research in third countries for nationals or long-term residents of EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries who wish to reintegrate to Europe.
  3. Should comply with mobility rules: they must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Cyprus, or the host organisation for the outgoing phase (for Global Postdoctoral Fellowships) for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the call deadline (13/9/23).
  4. Good research track record and publications related or complementary to the Expertise Sough or the overall activities of the hosting Research Team.

What we offer:

  • A stimulating, interdisciplinary environment for research in the field of Computer Networks and Communication Systems.
  • Support and guidance for the preparation of your MSCA PF proposal from your future supervisor and the team’s research manager.
  • Advise and comprehensive support from the Research and Interconnection Service of Frederick University for incoming international researchers.

How to apply?

You can submit your application via e-mail to ch.chrysostomou@frederick.ac.cy (Cc research@frederick.ac.cy) with subject line “MSCA PF 2023 Proposals”. Your application must include of a pdf file with the following documents:

  1. A 1-page motivation letter
  2. Your academic CV, including a complete list of your publications

As soon as the supervisor agrees to support you as a MSCA-PF candidate, you will be requested to start preparation of the MSCA PF proposal and will be supported further by the supervisor and the R&I Service of FredU.

For more information about the hosting offer, you can contact Dr Chrysostomos Chrysostomou (Director of the Networks Research Laboratory (NETLAB), ch.chrysostomou@frederick.ac.cy).
