Description

EnergyLab, a Research and Technology Organization placed in Vigo, Spain, is interested in receiving Expressions of Interest of potential candidates for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Individual Fellowship (MSCA-IF) 2020 call.

Brief description of the institution:

EnergyLab is specialised in energy efficiency and sustainability. It is a non-profit private entity set up on 2008 as an initiative of the industry, the Regional Government and the three universities of Galicia. EnergyLab identifies, develops and promotes technologies, processes, products and consumption behaviours able to contribute to the improvement of the energy efficiency and sustainability through its applications in industry, domestic products, mobility and buildings. EnergyLab is member of ATIGA (Galician Technological Alliance), SPIRE, ECTP and recognised by the European Commission as KET Centre in the European KETs map.

The centre’s R&D activity covers four main areas:

  • Efficient Buildings: this area integrates the energy efficiency and renewable systems to implement in building. This area works on efficient technologies for heating, cooling and efficient lighting, and makes the studies to implement these systems in the sector.
  • Industry: this area implements energy efficiency and advances systems in industrial processes with technologies such as air compressed and adjustable speed drivers and, above all, specific systems for monitoring and data processing in industry process and buildings.
  • Bioenergy: this area develops projects related to different kind of renewable energy such as biogas, biomass, geothermal, wave energy or biohydrogen generation.
  • Mobility and infrastructures: this area studies new systems for sustainable mobility (alternative fuels such as biogas, biohydrogen, electricity, etc.) and the infrastructure related to alternative fuels generation, distribution, storage and use.

Particularly, in the field of renewable gases, the Bioenergy Area of ENERGYLAB has been involved in several projects, but two showcases regarding the development of green gases in Spain are remarkable: one launched in 2014 to 2017 called “Sustainable Mobility Joint Research Unit” and from 2016 to 2019 in the project “Renewable Gas Joint Research Unit” in which our researchers have gained knowledge on different options for biogas upgrading and also uses in a wastewater treatment plant.

  • What are we looking for?

We are looking for potential candidates to conduct high level research and contribute to solving global challenges about green gases within the Bioenergy Area. More in detail, the research field includes:

  • Biogas upgrading (biological methanation, accelerated carbonation, chemical absorption, and microalgae cultivation)
  • Syngas production
  • Biohydrogen production

We are looking for excellent and highly motivated candidates with a MSc degree in Biology, Chemistry, Industrial / Chemical /Environment Engineering and/or Energy systems or similar, with some experience in anaerobic digestion, biogas upgrading, green hydrogen and/or syngas production. Knowledge in renewable energy technologies life cycle assessment and experience at pilot / industrial scale is highly valuable. In addition, driving license is also required.

We are looking for a methodical and rigorous person with a scientific spirit and results oriented. Teamwork and communication and management skills will also be a requirement. Mastery of English on all levels will be essential. Knowledge of other languages will be desirable.

Description of the MSCA Fellowship Program

Individual Fellowships are a great option if you are an experienced researcher looking to give your career a boost by working abroad. European Fellowships are open to researchers moving within Europe, as well as those coming in from other parts of the world. The grant typically covers two years' salary, a mobility allowance, research costs and overheads for the host institution. Individual researchers prepare and submit proposals for funding together with their planned supervisor/host organization. Proposals are judged on their research quality, impact and implementation, the researcher's future career prospects, and the support offered by the host organization. More information about MSCA Individual Fellowships is available clicking here.

Elegibility criteria

According to the MSCA-IF-2020 call, the fellows, at the deadline for the submission of the proposals:

- Must be experienced researchers, i.e., e in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience.

- May not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the three years immediately before September 9th 2020.

Application

Researchers willing to apply should check that they meet the eligibility requirements and send the expression of interest, including:

  • The CV
  • A motivation letter
  • A summary of their research proposal Expressions of interest should be sent by email directly to the Responsible of the Project Office (paula.iglesias@energylab.es) and the Responsible of Bioenergy Area (angela.rodriguez@energylab.es) indicating “Call for Expressions of Interest for the submission of MSCA-IF projects in the Bioenergy Area” in the subject.
